NFL Rumors: Cleveland Browns Do Not Regret Carson Wentz Trade

The Carson Wentz trade was one of the most heavily discussed topics earlier this year. It is becoming a topic again because Robert Griffin III has suffered a serious shoulder injury and is out for a couple of months. According to NFL.com, the Cleveland Browns do not regret making the trade.

Even though there is a very good chance that Robert Griffin III is able to make a return this season, there are many who believe that the Cleveland Browns are going in a different direction at the quarterback position. They feel that the RGIII era is over before it actually even began.

Josh McCown is taking over as the new starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. The 37-year-old was supposed to be the reliable veteran backup that helped Robert Griffin III make his transition to a new team after spending a couple of years with the Washington Redskins. McCown is a short-term fix.

That means that the Cleveland Browns will be spending valuable resources yet again on finding someone that can become their starting quarterback for at least a couple of seasons. As many NFL fans already know, there is a long list of players who have tried and failed to fill that void.

Interestingly enough, the first game of the regular season for the Cleveland Browns was against the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that chose Carson Wentz with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft. That enabled Browns fans to get an up-close-and-personal look at a guy that could have been their quarterback.

Carson Wentz put on a pretty good performance, especially when you consider that this is his first real game in the NFL. The 23-year-old threw for 278 yards in his debut. Wentz also had two touchdowns. That was enough to make Cleveland Browns fans second guess the decision to bypass Wentz.

To give a better idea of how much hype there is behind Carson Wentz right now after the game against the Cleveland Browns, his jersey has been the best-selling one in the NFL since Sunday, as reported by ESPN. Fans, including some of those in Cleveland, believe that Wentz will be a star quarterback in the National Football League.

It was only a couple of weeks ago when Carson Wentz was the third string quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was stuck behind Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel. Bradford was traded to the Minnesota Vikings, who were desperate because Teddy Bridgewater suffered a season-ending injury. Wentz was then named the starter.

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson has been in the NFL long enough to know that the media was going to ask him about the Carson Wentz trade.

Not surprisingly, Hue Jackson flat out stated that they do not regret the decision to trade Carson Wentz. The Cleveland Browns have a lot more holes to fill than just at the quarterback position. Jackson also stated that he did not believe that Wentz was the franchise quarterback that the Browns needed.

When an NFL team makes a trade, they are going to be held accountable for the outcome years down the line. The Washington Redskins are already at that stage because Robert Griffin III did not become the franchise-changing quarterback they thought he would be.

If Carson Wentz becomes a big superstar for the Philadelphia Eagles, then Hue Jackson and the Cleveland Browns will have to live with that for a very long time. That is just the nature of the business when you are involved in a high-power position in the NFL.
