NFL Rumors: Los Angeles Rams Star Aaron Donald Suspension Unlikely, Punishment Still Being Discussed

An Aaron Donald suspension was a possibility after what happened on Monday Night Football. Fortunately for the Los Angeles Rams, it does not appear that the superstar defensive tackle will not be missing any games, according to NFL.com. Donald was ejected during the fourth quarter against the San Francisco 49ers.

With a new home city and a new season, the Los Angeles Rams had hoped that their fortune in the NFL would be changing. Their first game was against the San Francisco 49ers, a team that the Rams were hoping to establish a strong rivalry with since they are both in California again.

The Los Angeles Rams were really hoping to score a victory during the opener because they wanted to excite their new fan base. Since the San Francisco 49ers are going through a rebuilding period, the Rams truly thought that they had a chance to pull off the win on Monday Night Football.

Things did not go exactly as planned for the Los Angeles Rams. The San Francisco 49ers came out and dominated defensively. They were even able to slow down Todd Gurley, one of the franchise players for the Rams and a rising running back in the NFL.

Defensively, the San Francisco 49ers played well enough that the Los Angeles Rams were not able to put up a single point on the scoreboard. With Todd Gurley ineffective, starting quarterback Case Keenum was unable to get a semblance of a passing game going. That frustrated the defensive players.

The San Francisco 49ers were up by 21 points when tempers started to fly in the fourth quarter. A skirmish broke out. Aaron Donald, quite possibly the most dominant defensive tackle in the NFL, grabbed Niners wide receiver Quinton Patton by the neck. His helmet was ripped off. Donald then made contact with one of the officials.

After talking it over, the officials decided that Aaron Donald needed to leave the game. An ejection was announced. That did not sit well with Donald. The Los Angeles Rams star grabbed his helmet and slammed it violently onto the turf. That received quite a reaction from the audience.

To his credit, Aaron Donald took responsibility for his actions after the game. He stated that there was no excuse. Donald told the media that he was frustrated because of how his team played against the San Francisco 49ers. The 25-year-old even admitted that it was a dumb decision.

Aaron Donald also acknowledged that he is more than likely going to be fined by the NFL. Since he is not being suspended, the fine should be pretty sizable. The National Football League needs to send a message that officials cannot be roughed up like that.

A suspension would have been difficult for the Los Angeles Rams to secure their first victory of the season. Their next game is against the Seattle Seahawks, one of the better franchises in the NFL. The Seahawks have a weak offensive line and starting quarterback Russell Wilson is hurt, so Aaron Donald could greatly affect the outcome of the game.

The Los Angeles Rams are making their debut at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum next Sunday since returning from St. Louis. The stadium should be filled up because fans are excited to have an NFL team again. Southern Californians packed the the pace during the preseason when the Rams played against the Dallas Cowboys.

For the sake of the Los Angeles Rams, this situation with Aaron Donald should hopefully be resolved in the next couple of days when the NFL announces the amount that Donald will be fined for the incident.
