‘World Of Warcraft,’ ‘Hearthstone’ Digital Bonuses Included With Physical Purchase Of ‘Warcraft’ Movie

In Warcraft, audiences witness the world of Azeroth as it is invaded by orcs looking for a new world to inhabit. The story is likely familiar to players that have experienced one of the several games featuring Warcraft lore. After all, Blizzard Entertainment has been telling and expanding on that story in video games for decades. On September 27, the Warcraft movie will release in stores in the United States and Canada. Fans that pick up a physical copy of the movie in those regions will also receive codes for digital items in Blizzard Entertainment’s popular games related to the Warcraft franchise.

Select editions of the Warcraft movie will include items for Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and World of Warcraft. According to the World of Warcraft website, these physical copies of the movie on Blu-ray or DVD will include codes for digital bonuses in those games. Players of Hearthstone can unlock the Medivh hero for their Mage decks while those enjoying Heroes of the Storm will find a code for the Gul’dan hero. Finally, the movie will also include a digital copy of World of Warcraft containing all of the game’s expansions except for the recently released Legion.

In Hearthstone, the Medivh alternate skin for the Mage deck is normally $9.99 and can only be purchased from the game’s store with real money. The free-to-play trading card game continues to expand with new cards, new Adventures, and more as the title progresses. Players can find out more by checking out the official website. In fact, a new Welcome Bundle is being released soon for just $4.99. The new bundle includes 10 Hearthstone packs and one random Classic class Legendary.

In Heroes of the Storm, players can unlock Gul’dan for 10,000 gold; a currency which is naturally earned in-game. He can also be purchased with real money at a $9.99 price tag. Heroes of the Storm is a multiplayer battle arena game with a large roster of popular Blizzard Entertainment characters. It is also free-to-play with optional store purchases much like Hearthstone. It is growing with its latest update “Machines of War” that will introduce two new heroes, two new battlegrounds, an in-game event, and new skins. For more information on this update, head over to the update’s main page on the official website.

As for the World of Warcraft bonus included in with the movie, players will find that it is the game itself. The base game is $19.99 from most retailers and that now includes all of the MMORPG’s expansions through Warlords of Draenor. For new players, this code also includes 30 days of subscription time to the game. Of course, veteran players of World of Warcraft may find the bonus of the MMORPG with the movie purchase slightly disappointing. Those players already have the client and the 30 days of game time can only be used on a new account.

It is likely that the free game can be used to take advantage of the Recruit A Friend program. In this case, a veteran could possibly earn rewards like a special mount or pet if the new player continues to keep playing. However, that digital bonus is not as straightforward as the free heroes in Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm. Not to mention, to earn a free mount or pet that way technically requires an additional purchase on the part of the new account holder.

The promotion of digital goods with the movie is no surprise after select theaters offered World of Warcraft for free with a purchase of a movie ticket. In February, Blizzard Entertainment surveyed players on whether or not they would appreciate a promotion like that as reported by the Inquisitr. When the movie released in June, partnered theaters included the base World of Warcraft game, including all current expansions of the time, for free with a ticket purchase to the Warcraft movie exactly like the physical purchase promotion.

Fans that took advantage of the Warcraft movie promotion in theaters will need to use their code for the game soon. Players that received a World of Warcraft game code from a theatrical ticket will need to redeem it before January 2017 according to the Warcraft movie promotion website.
