Oregon Farmer Eaten By His Own Hogs

A 70-year-old Oregon farmer was reportedly eaten by his own collection of hogs, according to NBC News. When the man didn’t return from feeding the swine, a family member embarked on a mission to find the missing farmer. Unfortunately, when the individual stumbled into the hog pen, all that remained of the poor guy was his dentures and a few body parts.

Presently, authorities theorize that Terry V. Garner had some sort of medical condition that caused him to collapse in his hog pen, which was filled with 700-pound pigs. However, since most of the farmer’s remains were eaten by his hogs, a proper investigation into the peculiar incident will be more than a little difficult.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement regarding the farmer’s particularly gruesome demise:

“There are several scenarios being investigated, including that Mr. Garner had a health event, such as a heart attack, which then put him in a position where the hogs could consume him. Another scenario being investigated is that given the age and health of Mr. Garner, that one or more of the hogs knocked Mr. Garner to the ground, whereupon that hogs killed and consumed him.”

According to Fox News, this isn’t the first time the hogs had display aggressive behavior towards the farmer. It’s presently unknown just how many of the carnivorous pigs the guy had on his farm.

In order to determine what caused the poor farmer’s death, his remains are being sent to a forensic anthropologist at the University of Oregon for investigation. Although the sows didn’t have any problem consuming their caretaker upon his death, the man’s brother explained that the farmer cared deeply for his livestock.

“Those animals were his life,” Michael Garner explained. “He had all kinds of birds, and turkeys that ran all over the place. Everybody knew him.”

Despite being bitten by one of the hogs when he accidentally stepped on a piglet, Michael’s brother didn’t hold a grudge against the swine. “He said he was going to kill it, but when I asked him about it later, he said he had changed his mind,” Garner said.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time someone has been eaten by hogs. In 1999, a man was reportedly killed by a pack of dogs before being consumed by several pigs.
