Mark Ballas Focusing On Wedding Planning And Broadway Role, Teases Judging Stint On ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Mark Ballas won’t be competing on Dancing with the Stars this season, but he has his eye on a spot on the judges’ panel despite his lead role in a hit Broadway show. In an interview with ET Online, Ballas, who has competed in a whopping 18 seasons of Dancing With the Stars, talked about his upcoming lead role as Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys on Broadway. But Mark didn’t rule out a return to DWTS sometimes this season, either.

“I’ve been a fan of this show since it came out,” Ballas told ET of Jersey Boys.

“I’ve seen it on [London’s] West End, I’ve seen it in Vegas, I’ve seen it numerous times in New York, and it’s actually coming to a close… this is the last run, and I’m going to be able to play the final Frankie on Broadway, so this is incredible. I’m super excited.”

Mark Ballas said he is a Jersey Boys superfan and is very familiar with the music from the show. The show, which first opened in November 2005, tells the story of the ’60’s supergroup, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, opened on the Great White Way in November 2005, and it remains one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history with over 4,600 performances to be logged by the time it closes for good in January, according to Broadway.com.

With Mark Ballas as the final Frankie Valli, he will take on some different dance moves than he did in the Dancing With the Stars ballroom.

“It’s kind of more about the gestures and the charisma rather than the technical aspect of it,” Mark said. “So, I’m looking forward to spending time focusing on being a musician and an actor first.”

Mark Ballas will make his Broadway debut on Oct. 18 and will play the lead role until the production closes Jan. 15, 2017.

While Ballas admits he will miss the celebrity ballroom competition, as well as his DWTS friends and fans, he is also not ruling out a cameo on the show, and he might even show up this season.

“[It] would be really nice to sit behind the desk, so don’t rule that out,” Ballas teased.

“Hopefully at some point. Maybe this season, who knows?… Jersey Boys is dark on Mondays so if they need me to get out there for some judging, I can make it. I can make that happen.”

Mark Ballas has always been very close to his fans. After the DWTS Season 23 cast announcement was revealed, Mark penned a handwritten note to fans, explaining that he was stepping back from the hit ABC reality show to focus on other endeavors.

“I know many of you are concerned + curious,” Mark wrote. “I’ll miss competing + creating outside the box, however I am looking forward to this new chapter + venture that is beginning shortly.”

Ballas later tweeted the news that he landed the lead role in the Broadway musical.

Of course, Mark Ballas has more than Broadway on his mind. The two-time mirrorball champ is also in the middle of planning his wedding to his longtime love and musical collaborator, BC Jean. Ballas recently posted a photo of himself sampling wedding cake with his bride-to-be, joking that he is trying to be a “hands-on groom.”

Mark Ballas and BC Jean have been together since 2012. They formed their own band, Alexander Jean, and became engaged last Thanksgiving, although they kept their news under wraps until early this year.

Mark Ballas told Access Hollywood that his proposal to BC jean was inspired by their song “Roses and Violets.” Mark revealed that he lined roses and violets up the driveway of the couple’s Los Angeles home after decorating the house in a Woodstock-inspired theme with retro rugs and posters of BC’s favorite bands.

“When she got in there I froze,” Ballas revealed.

“My heart was pounding…I’ve been on stages my whole life, and when she walked in the room I was thought, ‘Whoa, here we go.’ So we kind of just held each other for a minute, and then I did the [one-knee] drop, I popped the question, she said yes. Everything went to plan and the way the house was decorated — it was just absolutely incredible.”

In June, Mark Ballas told People that he and his fiancée hadn’t set a wedding date yet, but they did confirm that Mark’s Dancing With the Stars“brother,” Derek Hough, would be the best man. But don’t expect to hear about any big, choreographed dances. Mark said the wedding “will be about the marriage,” and BC Jean added that she doesn’t want to be “out-danced” at her own wedding.
