A suspect is in custody just 24 hours after Colorado police asked the public for help in identifying a peeping tom, who was captured in a surveillance video staring into the bedroom of a 17-year-old girl in Arvada, according to the Denver Channel.
Last month on August 17, an unnamed man called police officials to his home in the 17000 block of W. 87th Avenue after discovering surveillance footage which captured a peeping tom gazing into his daughter’s bedroom.
In the video, the man can be seen walking to what appears to be the front door of the house and fondling with something on the door – possibly the door knob.
Several seconds later, the man walks to the side of the house where a small window is located and begins peeping inside.
Authorities say the window leads to the bedroom of a 17-year-old girl, whose name has not been released.

After Arvada police reviewed the footage, they posted the video to their Facebook page a month later, seeking the public’s help in identifying the man, who is described as a “middle-aged white male with short/shaved hair and a receding hairline, balding on the crown, wearing dark-rimmed plastic glasses which appear to be prescription, a light colored t-shirt, light colored cargo shorts, and tennis shoes.”
Jill McGranahan, who is a spokesperson for the Arvada Police Department, stated that “it’s always disconcerting when someone you don’t know is looking in your house. Arvada is a very safe community.”
“We don’t like to see this type of activity, and we want to make sure that we address it as soon as possible.”
However, the video sparked social media outrage, receiving thousands of shares and hundreds of comments. Many were calling the peeping tom “sick” and “gross,” while others stated that it was just downright “creepy.”
Facebook user, Frank Erickson, stated, “Quick way to die around my house. Let me catch someone spying on my daughter, they can cancel Christmas for sure. Hope someone identifies this creep.”
Another Facebook user added, “What is happening to our country? Years ago, this dude would have been shot and this shooter would have been given a medal. Now, even the law enforcement people can’t even shoot an intruder without being threatened with all kinds of retributions.”
Authorities asked the public if they have any information regarding the identity and/or whereabouts of the man in the video to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers. Police added that all callers would remain anonymous and they could be offered a reward for up to $2,000.
Just 24 hours after posting the disturbing video, Arvada police received the suspect’s name.

The peeping tom has been arrested but police officials are not releasing a name, claiming after their investigation is complete, the suspect’s name will be released later next week, according to the Mirror.
Commander Michelle Moriarty, who is with the Arvada Police Department, stated, “We are grateful that so many people shared the video footage and because of that, the suspect was quickly identified.”
“When the community comes together like they did in this instance, it helps ensure the continued safety of our City. Thank you.”
After learning the suspect was arrested, the community thanked Arvada police for capturing the peeping tom, saying, “Thank you. It’s in my area too. I am always looking at the sex offenders list when someone moves,” said Michelle Mccallum. “But this is scary. I won’t let my granddaughter leave the circle. She’s a bit annoyed with it but if an adult is not outside, she cannot leave the front yard.”
An investigation continues.
