‘Doom’ Update 3 Includes Two Game Modes, Gameplay Reveal Live Streaming Via Twitch Tomorrow, September 13

A new Doom update is scheduled to arrive this month, highlighting two new game modes. According to Bethesda, the first-person shooter’s Update 3, available for free, will bring in Deathmatch and Private Matches.

Deathmatch, one of the new game modes included in Doom’s Update 3, will bring “free-for-all mayhem” to multiplayer. Private Matches, on the other hand, will enable players and their friends to form private multiplayer matches. In this game mode, players have the freedom to decide which maps and modes to use.

“You’ll also be able to adjust settings like the time limit, score limit, or turning demons and power weapon off or on,” Bethesda noted about the upcoming free update.

Fans can get their first look at Doom’s Update 3 new game modes during a live stream event via Twitch happening tomorrow, September 13 at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. UK. The live streaming will be hosted by Xbox and will feature Mart Stratton and Hugo Martin of id Software.

In addition to the live gameplay of Doom’s Update 3 Deathmatch and Private Matches, there will also be a sneak peek of another game feature called Arcade Mode. Described as the forthcoming “competitive addition to the game’s critically-acclaimed campaign mode,” Arcade Mode will be part of a future update slated for this fall.

The new Doom hit the shelves back in May 2016, available for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The summary for the sci-fi first-person video game, as posted on Metacritic, read as follows.

“There is no taking cover or stopping to regenerate health in campaign mode as you beat back Hell’s raging demon hordes. Combine your arsenal of futuristic and iconic guns, upgrades, movement and an advanced melee system to knock-down, slash, stomp, crush, and blow apart demons in creative and violent ways. In multiplayer, dominate your opponents in Doom’s signature, fast-paced arena-style combat. In both classic and all-new game modes, annihilate your enemies utilizing your personal blend of skill, powerful weapons, vertical movement, and unique power-ups that allow you to play as a demon.”

Early last month, Doom’s first premium DLC was released. Called Unto The Evil, this content pack came with three new multiplayer maps, namely Offering, Cataclysm and Ritual. This Doom DLC update also brought in a new playable demon known as Harvester. Unto The Evil also added a new weapon and equipment, the UAC EMG Pistol and Kinetic Mine, respectively.

Unto The Evil also included more customization options for Doom Marine as more armor sets, colors, taunts and patterns were included. New hack modules were provided as well.

The PartyPlay system was also introduced in the paid content pack “which allows anyone to play any of the new maps from Unto the Evil, as long as you party up with a friend who owns the DLC,” Bethesda explained. “Similarly, if you own the DLC, the Unto the Evil DLC maps will be accessible to anyone who’s in your party as part of the map rotation.”

Doom’s Unto the Evil can be accessed automatically by Season Pass holders. It can also be purchased as a standalone for $14.99 / £11.99 / €14.99 / AUS $23.95.

The PS4 version of Doom got an 84/100 Metascore and 8.1/10 from Metacritic, reflecting the positive reviews from critics and users featured on the website. For instance, below is a Doom review from Telegraph cited on Metacritic.

“There were no doubts that Doom would play fast, look stunning, or be gory; the surprise is that Doom is as relevant, smart and self-aware as it is; merging old ideas with new ones; injecting its near-flawless shooter mechanics into a campaign that’s impeccably refined, hilariously dumb and fiendishly moreish.”
