Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill are one couple that has worked hard to overcome the challenges that plague celebrity relationships. Having started dating in 2014, their relationship is still going strong. That said, there has been an ongoing feud between Meek Mill and Drake, who is under the Cash Money music label, same as Nicki. It all began when Meek Mill started taking shots at Drake for not supporting him by announcing his album on social media. The tweet read as follows.
“Stop comparing drake to me too…. He don’t write his own raps! That’s why he ain’t tweet my album because we found out!”
This was in July last year and caused a great rift between the two, leading to diss tracks from both sides. Drake later on opened up about the ghostwriting allegations, stating that he usually asked other people to contribute their ideas in the making of his songs to add to the creativity. The following was his statement as reported by The Daily Beast.
“I need, sometimes, individuals to spark an idea so that I can take off running. I don’t mind that. And those recordings—they are what they are. And you can use your own judgment on what they mean to you…If I have to be the vessel for this conversation to be brought up—you know, God forbid we start talking about writing and references and who takes what from where—I’m OK with it being me.”
“… It’s just, music at times can be a collaborative process, you know? Who came up with this, who came up with that—for me, it’s like, I know that it takes me to execute every single thing that I’ve done up until this point. And I’m not ashamed.”
He spoke about the tweet from Meek Mill that sparked the feud, stating that he was at a charity game when he received the news about the controversial statement on social media. He spoke about this during an interview with The Fader.
About his reaction, he decided to release a diss track directed at Meek that was bound to put a stop to the onslaught. The track was the “Back to Back Freestyle” diss. About the strategy, he offered the following.
“I was like, ‘I’m gonna probably just finish this.’ And I know how I have to finish it. This has to literally become the song that people want to hear every single night, and it’s gonna be tough to exist during this summer when everybody wants to hear [this] song that isn’t necessarily in your favor.”
He was, however, surprised by the speed at which Meek Mill was able to respond, releasing his “Charged Up” diss directed at Drake in one week. Drake is widely considered to have won the feud, with his tracks being more popular than Meek Mill’s.
Fast forward to current events and jewelry worth $3 million was stolen from Drake’s and DJ Future the Prince’s tour bus. The incident, which was reported to have happened in downtown Phoenix is said to have involved a male suspect who got into the bus at about 10pm. The following is an excerpt of the report from Page Six.
“According to investigators, a suspect entered the bus between 10 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. and removed a briefcase containing the jewelry. Lewis says police do not disclose the identities of burglary victims but confirmed the jewelry did not belong to Drake.”
The jewelry is said to have been recovered and the suspect arrested. Travion King, 21, is said to have carried out the theft and was booked at the Maricopa County Jail. When Meek Mill was asked to comment about Drake’s jewelry being stolen, his reaction could only be described as awkward as he tried hard to hide a smile. Check out the video below.
