Brad Pitt Slams Mel Gibson’s ‘Passion Of The Christ’ And Doesn’t Support Donald Trump

Mel Gibson’s 2004 box office hit Passion of the Christ was met with controversy, and Brad Pitt is not a fan of the movie.

The Passion of the Christ is the highest grossing religious movie and did over $600 million in the box office. The movie has been criticized for its excessive violence and allegations of anti-Semitism.

In an interview with New York Times Style Magazine, Brad Pitt, who is also a movie producer, would like to make a movie about Pontius Pilate. However, Jesus won’t be the focal point of the conceptualized movie, and the religious icon will get very little screen time.

The movie will focus on a “mediocre Roman official stuck in the middle of nowhere with difficult people he doesn’t like, makes him smile.”

Brad Pitt responded to a joke about the violence of the movie when he reveals that he thinks The Passion of the Christ is similar to the founder of Scientology’s marketing methods.

“Mel Gibson’s torture-porn epic is one of the things that drove me out of the church.” Pitt burst into laughter. “I felt like I was just watching an L. Ron Hubbard propaganda film.”

However, Brad Pitt is not against violence in movies nor Mel Gibson. The actor praised Apocalypto – calling it a great film.

When asked about Donald Trump, Brad Pitt can’t imagine the Republican nominee being President. He was also surprised by the United Kingdom’s narrow vote to leave the European Union, which many have criticized as an anti-immigration-motivated vote.

Brad Pitt states that people from his hometown are more likely to identify with Trump’s message.

“Coming from Oklahoma, southern Missouri, which leans more toward a Trump voice, I try to understand it.” The Trump campaign has been accused of extremism and bigotry with anti-immigration and anti-Muslim message.

Brad Pitt suggest that Trump supporters are people who feel left out and are just trying to make a living. However, he feels who support Donald Trump may not get what they seek out of his potential presidency.

“It seems that the people who suffer the most end up betting for the party that would hurt them,” he goes on. “And so I try to understand where they’re coming from.”

Brad Pitt then agrees with the interviewer that Donald Trump support may be coming from financial hardship and people don’t have time to say informed because they are trying to get by with paying rent, etc.

“You gotta understand,” he says, “that it’s also in our DNA. Most Americans don’t have time to watch CNN and Fox and Al Jazeera. They’re trying to make the rent, get the kids fed, they’re tired when they get home and they want to forget about everything. And so suddenly when this voice comes in — and it doesn’t have to be a voice of substance — saying he’s fed up with all of this, that’s the part that hooks into the DNA.”

Brad Pitt generally keeps a low profile and doesn’t do many interviews. Pitt generally supports Democratic candidates and has donated to environmental causes. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the actor does not identify with Donald Trump’s policies.

The actor also talked with the interviewer about money and happiness, revealing that he has met happy people who didn’t have money or material things.

“I’ve gone into areas of third-world countries where people have suffered the most, but those people always seem to have the biggest laugh,” the actor said.

The 52-year-old actor has managed to maintain his physique and showed his toned body in 2014 war drama Fury.

Plan B, the film production company Pitt co-founded in 2001 has produced several successful movie projects including The Big Short, 12 Years a Slave, World War Z, and Eat Pray Love.
