‘The Vampire Diaries’ Brings Back Another Favorite For ‘The Beginning Of The End’ [Video]

The Vampire Diaries will soon be returning for its eighth and final season, and while all of Mystic Falls’ greatest heroes have gone through epic changes in the last seven seasons, it seems Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) will be just as we first saw him in Season 1. This story arc sets up the new installment of The Vampire Diaries to delve deeper into the brotherly love and rivalry between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon, which has always helped to amp up the emotional involvement of the show’s fans. Will Stefan find a way to save Damon, as he always has in the past, or will Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) pay the ultimate price by the end of The Vampire Diaries?

The Vampire Diaries Teaser Sets Up A Tense Season 8

E! News has just shared a glimpse into the beginning of Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries, which reveals that Damon, assisted by Enzo, is back to his old ways. When the CW show premiered in 2009, Ian Somerhalder’s character was vile, angry creature, and it seemed likely that he would be the worst villain Mystic Falls would ever see. Along the way, Damon patched things up with his brother, though that relationship has always been tenuous at best, and he even found love with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev). His character was nearly tamed, and as The Vampire Diaries brought in greater villains, Damon was soon fighting for the forces of good.

Now, as Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries picks up, Damon has reverted back to those evil ways, literally tearing into unsuspecting couples and draining nearly everyone dry of their blood. The force compelling Damon and Enzo to go on this blood-letting spree will be revealed soon in the coming installment of The Vampire Diaries and the motive will become apparent, along with this revelation, but does that mean Bonnie and Stefan will be able to save Damon and Enzo?

That doesn’t seem likely, according to Somerhalder’s Vampire Diaries character.

“Once the devil comes a calling, you’re done.”

The Vampire Diaries To Bring In Someone From Damon’s Past

Saving Damon isn’t going to be easy, but when has it ever been a simple matter to spare any of the Mystic Falls heroes? This time around, TV Guide reveals that Stefan may end up pinning his hopes on a former ally, Tyler Lockwood. Although Michael Trevino left The Vampire Diaries in Season 6, he made a brief appearance last year and will do so again in this coming season. Stefan will call on him to help reach Damon, who has been influenced by the entity that he and Enzo released from The Vault.

Tyler and Damon have never been great friends, and spent more of their time in The Vampire Diaries at each other’s throats, than they have as genuine comrades, leaving the question of whether or not Tyler can really reach the real Damon. It may be that Damon can only be reached by someone who stirs intense emotions within him, strong feelings of love or of hate. Somerhalder’s character may hold such intense loathing for Trevino’s Tyler Lockwood, that this confrontation may be just what the doctor ordered.

Elsewhere on The Vampire Diaries, it seems Caroline is thawing towards Stefan, as the two finally share a new kiss, but where will that leave Alaric (Matthew Davis) and the twins? The answer to that question may come with The Vampire Diaries‘ introduction of a new nanny, Seline, to be played by Kristen Gutoskie.

The official Vampire Diaries character description for Seline is a “warm, nurturing nanny of two young kids by day, and a small-town girl trying to find her place in a dangerous world by night.”

Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries debuts on Friday, October 21, on The CW network.
