Celine Dion Debuts Pink Tribute To Rene Angelil’s Passing [Video]

Celine Dion was understandably devastated when her husband, Rene Angelil, succumbed to cancer and passed away at the beginning of this year, but Celine wasn’t alone in her period of heartbroken mourning. Among those seeking to provide Ms. Dion with comfort and support was fellow musician Pink, who presented Celine with a personally written song. Pink’s gift was given in the hope that the music and lyrics would help Dion to move past her grief and also help to honor the memory of Angelil. Now, after months of mourning followed by a return to work, Celine Dion is ready to share that song with the world.

E! News shares the lyrics to the Pink-written song, newly recorded by Ms. Dion, and even a small sampling of the words reveals a song about grief, loss, and healing. The words to “Recovering” are as laborious as the actual process of mourning, taking listeners through the stages and lending a melody to that feeling of loss.

“Little by little, day-by-day, one step at a time / Shake off the devil / Take back my piece of mind / I am recovering,” she sings only to the tune of a piano. “Anxiety added. A broken perfectionist / somewhat erratic / I am recovering / A constant regretter / Hold it against her…” read the “Recovering” lyrics.

Celine Dion recently commented on Pink’s gift, expressing a tremendous feeling of gratitude to Pink for taking the time to pen the song. Ms. Dion shared the moment she pulled Pink aside to tell her how much the gesture has meant and still means to her, many months later.

“[Pink] is phenomenal. I love her for her talent, for her strength, for her focus, the person she is,” Ms. Dion says. “At the [Billboard Music Awards] when I saw her, I said, ‘For you to take the time to really write a song, to give me a tool, a piece of luggage to help me to move forward to walk to keep going…'”

“Recovering” is the first single off of Celine Dion’s upcoming album, which will also be Celine’s first English language collection of songs, since she released Loved Me Back to Life in 2013.

Celine Dion Says Sia Is “Simply Incredible”

Pink isn’t the only singer/songwriter to have grabbed Celine Dion’s attention lately. The widely adored “My Heart Will Go On” artist recently wrote of her love for the music of Sia, and as People magazine reports, Dion is definitely fan-girling over Sia. Celine says Sia is “simply incredible, like no one I’ve ever met before,” as she writes the tribute for Billboard‘s The New Pioneers series.

“She’s an artist with a clear vision – for her songs, her videos, her performances,” Dion writes of Sia. “This industry can break you; it’s tough. But Sia has managed to carve out her own path, on her own terms and in her own time.”

Celine isn’t just a fan. She had worked with Sia back in 2013, when the two artists collaborated on Dion’s “Loved Me Back to Life” single. Sia sent the original demo of the song to Celine, and as soon as she gave it a listen, Ms. Dion was in love with everything about the song. She felt invigorated by the words and the music, but Celine says it was Sia’s voice that really sold her.

“I not only fell in love with the song and the words, but also with Sia’s absolutely beautiful voice: It’s so powerful – like nothing I had ever heard,” says Dion. “I listened to the demo 20 times in a row that day because her words spoke to me and I just couldn’t get enough of her voice.”

Upon meeting Sia, Ms. Dion says she developed an even greater respect for her as an artist and as a person. She describes Sia as a charming individual, someone both funny and compassionate. Celine adds she’s constantly looking forward to Sia’s next projects, as both a fellow artist and as a fan.
