Selena Gomez Struggles: Did Lupus, Drugs Or Justin Bieber’s New Romance Cause ‘Meltdown’?
Selena Gomez shocked fans when she suddenly announced she was canceling her Revival Tour to take time off. Gomez listed lupus, an autoimmune disease, as the reason for her decision, which came just after she and former boyfriend Justin Bieber were involved in a no-one-saw-that-coming war of words on Instagram over his response to fans about his new gal pal Sofia Richie.
But an insider told In Touch that another reason exists for Selena’s hiatus from her career, Bieber and the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer’s off-again, on-again romantic relationship.
Although the autoimmune disease, which causes the system to attack tissues and organs, is the focus of Gomez’s health issues, the source contends that the “constant partying” combined with her volatile relationship with Justin is exacerbating matters. And that’s why the news that Justin had become intimately involved with Sofia caused Bieber’s ex to react so dramatically, explained the insider.
“[Selena] had a meltdown.”
Justin has been focusing on Richie, and he turned protective in attempting to prevent his former girlfriend from interfering with Sofia, according to the source. However, Bieber’s decision to ignore her backfired when it came to how Selena reacted.
“The more [Justin] ignored her, the more she freaked out,” added the insider.
But as far as Bieber is concerned, there are no bad feelings between them, with the source also revealing that prayers are ongoing for his former girlfriend.
“Justin and his family are praying that she gets the help she needs.”
Is there any hope for Jelena (Justin + Selena) romance fans that Bieber will reach out and rekindle his romance with his former girlfriend amid her health crisis? Us Weekly reports that Richie feels she and Justin have a special relationship.

Sofia, a rising star when it comes to her aspirations to become a model, finally went on record about her romantic relationship with Justin. In addition to revealing that she is enjoying a “special relationship” with Bieber, Richie shared that the “Sorry” singer is “very easy to talk to, and that’s hard to find with people in Los Angeles.”
However, Justin and Sofia have been doing more than talking. Bieber took Richie to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where they celebrated her 18th birthday with some impressive public displays of affection. Justin even exited Instagram to shield his girlfriend after battling both his fans and Selena.
“I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand,” threatened Bieber just prior to leaving Instagram. “If you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people like that.”
That’s when Gomez suddenly surfaced, throwing shade both at Justin and his new romance.
“If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol.”
She continued to inform Bieber that he should keep his new romance “special between you two only,” urging him not to display anger at his fans because “they love you.” And the Instagram war didn’t stop there, with Justin accusing his former girlfriend of using him to gain the spotlight. Selena then alleged that Bieber had cheated on her, but Justin retorted by charging that she cheated as well with Zayn Malik.
“I cheated… Oh I forgot about You and Zayn?”
As to the possibility that something in addition to lupus and Bieber are involved in the sudden cancellation of the Revival Tour, Radar Online reports that it was the murder of her friend Christina Grimmie that led to even more problems.

Radar also reported that the singer “began spiraling” and had to check into rehab following the tragic loss of Christina. As to why she halted her Revival Tour, family members reportedly intervened because they were “concerned about her escalating drug use,” with Radar’s insider listing the alleged drugs.
“Lunesta, Ambien, Klonopin and Xanax. Not all at once. And more ‘recreational’ than any one thing specifically,” added the source.
In addition, an insider told Radar that Gomez had stayed at an Arizona facility in January 2014 for alleged drug abuse, including Xanax, Ambien, and marijuana.

Although rumors that her 2014 stay at a rehab facility was linked the stay to substance abuse, Selena subsequently revealed that she had gone there to recover following chemotherapy treatment for lupus.
