Los Angeles, CA (AHN) – California wildfires, including three near Los Angeles, has forced thousands to evacuate and flee their homes. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says on its Web site that there were two fires in Angeles National Forest in Los Angeles County, with one near the San Gabriel Canyon covering 2,000 acres and threatening 15 homes.

Authorities are also reporting that another fire in the forest charred 500 acres and forced the evacuation of 500 homes in the La Canada-Flintridge area northeast of Los Angeles. While KABC-TV is reporting a third fire which broke out Thursday night, south of Los Angeles in Rancho Palos Verdes, forced 1,000 residents from their homes.

In coastal Monterey County another 100 homes are in danger of being razed due to a blaze that has ravaged 2,754 acres.

Authorities reveal more than 700 crew members are working to put out the blazes. They include personnel from the U.S. Forest Service, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, California Department of Transportation and California Highway Patrol.

Additionally, fifteen water-dropping aircraft, including tankers and helicopters, have been called in to aid in the efforts.

Fire experts say the recent dry weather including low humidity and high temperatures, has increased the risk of fire. However, investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fires.
