When Will ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Be On Netflix?

There is still just over a month for the final season of The Vampire Diaries, but fans already have one big question: When will The Vampire Diaries Season 7 be on Netflix?

Netflix and the CW haven’t confirmed anything yet. What’s on Netflix suggests that The Vampire Diaries Season 7 will be on Netflix sometime in October of 2016. This would follow the precedent set in recent years, where the CW shows have been made available in the same month as the new seasons are released.

The Vampire Diaries worked a little different to other shows. Netflix made Season 6 available for streaming before the Season 7 premiere last year. It was only by six days, but fans had the chance to binge-watch and catch up before the Season 7 premiere. Other CW shows were made available on the same day as the new seasons, which the Inquisitr reported about: The Flash, Arrow, and Supernatural.

FanSided’s Netflix Life suggests that the date of release will be earlier than the October date. It predicts September 26 based on the timeline between the Season 6 finale and the release date of The Vampire Diaries Season 6 on Netflix last year. There are also suggestions that Season 7 will be available from September 18 since that is when Hulu says it will stop streaming all the CW shows. The Vampire Diaries or any other CW show have not been included in the list for the September releases, so it is likely still October.

Hulu has lost the licensing rights to the CW shows. Shortly after the 2015-2016 schedule ended, the CW announced that it would offer an exclusive streaming deal to Netflix for five years. Netflix would be allowed to air the full season eight days after the season finale of each show, making it available much sooner than ever before. Hulu would no longer air the most recent episode 24 hours after the airing on the CW or be allowed to air the previous five episodes. Hulu had wanted to keep the full season on its platform.

This new Netflix deal will not happen until the end of the 2016-2017 season. It does mean that The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will be available probably sometime in April/May 2017, as that is the predicted timeframe for the series finale.

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will premiere on the CW on October 21. This is later than previous seasons, so fans will hope that they don’t have to wait until six days before the premiere for Netflix to stream The Vampire Diaries Season 7.

Season 7 of the hit vampire show was the first without Nina Dobrev in the role of Elena Gilbert. Everyone tried to move on without her, but some found it harder than others. It didn’t help that the Huntress came to town, which was hinted at from the very beginning of the season with at least one flash forward per episode. The season eventually jumped forward three years, allowing for more freedom and hints to the ending for sister show The Originals.

During the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con, the cast and crew created a video as a goodbye to fans. It was the official announcement that The Vampire Diaries Season 8 would be the very last. There will be links back to the very first season of the show to help round out the story and create closure for fans. With that airing on October 21, it is possible that fans will need to wait until October 15 for The Vampire Diaries Season 7 to make it to Netflix.
