‘Street Fighter V’: Urien Gets Ready To Join Roster As Capcom Releases New Trailer [Video]

The stage is set to be ripe with Aegis Reflectors as Urien prepares to join the fray.

Street Fighter V has had quite the rocky release, though content continues to be added as fans yearn for more. We’ve seen the addition of multiple fighters to the already impressive list of characters. We’ve seen Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, and Juri hit the stage. Capcom has yet another addition that will be coming soon.

In a report by Gematsu, it’s revealed that Capcom has released the Street Fighter V character trailer for Urien. While some might have never seen the character in action, this won’t be his first time appearing in a Street Fighter game. Urien was first playable in Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact. He is considered inferior to Gill, a boss character in Street Fighter III: Third Strike who is said to be Urien’s sibling. The two have somewhat similar fighting styles, though Urien possesses a unique set of abilities that sets him apart.

In the trailer for Street Fighter V, we see that Urien will be sporting his business attire. Fans of the series should experience a bit of nostalgia, as Urien is usually seen in a business suit before becoming nearly nude in previous Street Fighter installments.

PC players may have already had time to get their hands on Urien, as he was made available in a limited capacity when the Street Fighter V story mode was released. Originally, he was supposed to be playable via Story Mode only. However, PC mods made him available to be used both online and offline. Capcom has since addressed this, leaving players yearning for Urien’s official release.

Urien’s V-Skill in Street Fighter V is the Metallic Aura, an ability that allows him to cover his body in a type of armor. With darkened skin to signify its use, Urien is able to absorb a single attack while making his advance. This is useful for approaching opponents who like to press buttons, giving the tyrannical brawler an opportunity to interrupt pressure. His V-Reversal appears to be a forward punch, capable of knocking the aggressor backward to create space.

Out of all of his notable abilities in Street Fighter V, Urien’s Aegis Reflector should be the most recognizable. Urien throws his hands skyward, and what looks to be a purple barrier emerges in front of him. With reflective capabilities, projectiles will be redirected back at unsuspecting opponents who throw them. Additionally, contact with the barrier without blocking will resulting in Urien’s opponents taking damage. This allows him to create pressure if used in close quarters. His Critical Art, Dominate Crush, is a pillar of energy that explodes from Urien’s hand when he slams it into the ground. All in all, Urien looks to have a plethora of ways to pile on the hurt.

Fortunately, Street Fighter V will be receiving more than just Urien. In a report by VG247, it’s said that Capcom will also be releasing a “Vs. CPU” mode for the game. This has been requested for quite some time. Originally, Street Fighter V was released with nothing more than an online and limited offline mode. With no “Arcade Mode” to speak of, many felt that the game was incomplete and needed more functionality. With both a new character and mode approaching, perhaps Capcom will generate more interest from players old and new.

The Street Fighter V update that holds Urien and the Vs. CPU mode will be discussed in greater detail at the Tokyo Game Show.
