Miley Cyrus Dead Of An Overdose? The Internet Claims ‘The Voice’ Judge Was Found Dead In The Tub [Video]

Miley Cyrus dead? Say it isn’t so! Spoiler: it isn’t so. Miley Cyrus, formerly Hannah Montana, singer of hits like “Wrecking Ball,” and daughter of country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus is still very much alive. Unfortunately for The Voice judge, she just became the latest high-profile victim of a cruel death hoax. Though it’s not the first time that Miley’s death has been erroneously reported and circulated around the nether regions of the internet, this time around Miley Cyrus isn’t taking the abuse of hoaxers sitting down.

Or quietly.

It could be because Miley Cyrus was accused of overdosing in a bathtub a la Whitney Houston, or it could be because people get sick of being lied about online. Even famous people. Maybe she was just having a bad day. Either way, as Hollywood Life reports, when Miley Cyrus got word that she’d died…again…she came out swinging against the vicious, possibly even libelous rumors.

The recent death hoax perpetrated against Miley Cyrus was a pretty detailed one, and that could be part of the reason that the star came out so publicly and humorously against the baseless rumors that she’d corked it in a tub, all strung out on pills. The story of 22-year-old Miley Cyrus’ recent drug-related death was first published last week by Now 8 News. While the “news” site doesn’t advertise itself as a satire site (think The Onion), some of the site’s story titles should have given readers the first clue that the breaking news that Miley Cyrus was dead might have been inaccurate.

With articles titled “Walmart Customer Finds Dead Baby in Discount DVD Bin” and “New Penis Implant Will Alert Your Cell Phone When Your Man Is Cheating,” readers (at least in hindsight) might have been well served to find a secondary, credible source to confirm the alleged death of Miley Cyrus.

A lot of people took the website at its word, though. Soon thereafter, the news that Miley Cyrus was among young Hollywood’s recently deceased spread like wildfire.

The news got back to Miley Cyrus herself. She didn’t find the news of her death credible. However, as the Inquisitr previously reported, Miley found the rumors of her recent death (at least a little) funny, if not lacking in creativity.

“Miley thinks that it is hilarious that she is the latest celebrity to be caught in the death hoax. When it happens again she hopes the people who make the hoax think of a more clever way on the reason for her demise since the bathtub reason was pretty weak for her more morbid sense of humor.”

In addition to publicly speaking out about the “weakness” of the death hoax story, Miley Cyrus (or her creepy undead zombie, if the rumors are to be believed) took to Instagram to throwback to her younger self.

The photo of a younger, slightly less death hoaxed Miley Cyrus was posted to her social media after the young woman was reportedly found dead in a tub. Riddle me that.

Unfortunately for Miley Cyrus, she’s just one of many celebrities (young and old) that have recently gotten caught up in the Hollywood death hoax craze. Sylvester Stallone, Angelina Jolie, and even Jaden Smith have also been recent victims. How do these rumors start and why are they started?

Let’s start with the why.

News of a celebrity death (particularly the death of someone as high profile as Miley Cyrus) is virtually guaranteed to go viral. That means that people who pull off a good celebrity death hoax get a lot of attention (and a lot of traffic to their website).

How do these stories go viral? Social media users and their incessant sharing, for the most part. Once a story like this ends up on Facebook, everybody wants to be the first to share it with their friends and family.

Voila.

In the case of Miley Cyrus, the death hoax was a bad one. Miley is always out and about, being photographed with her beau and doing her thing on The Voice.

Even so, plenty of folks thought that she was dead because they saw a headline that said so.

Don’t worry, Miley Cyrus fans, your girl is still alive.
