LG V20, The First Android 7.0 Nougat Laden Smartphone Announced

South Korean electronics giant LG Electronics earlier today announced the launch of its new Android-powered smartphone, the LG V20 at an event. The handset, as evident by its naming scheme, is a successor to the LG V10 that the company had launched last year. For the same reason, the LG V20 does inherit some of the qualities of the V10 – including the sturdy build, great camera, and not to mention, the capability to playback audiophile-grade audio. The LG V20 is also the first phone to officially launch with Android 7.0 Nougat – an honor that is usually bestowed to Google’s Nexus series of devices.

While the LG V20 does heavily borrow its features from the V10, design-wise, it is closer in design to LG’s current flagship device, the LG G5. That said, the V20 does not get the G5’s modular capabilities.

Let us check out the spec-sheet of the LG V20 now.

Being a high-end handset, the LG V20 is powered by the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor that has been around for a while now. There is 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage that can be expanded further if you wish to, using microSD cards. The phone features a 5.7-inch QHD IPS Quantum Display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, thereby offering a PPI density of around 513. Apart from this, the phone also gets a secondary display that has a resolution of 160 x 1040 pixels.

While we did talk about the imaging bit briefly in the introduction, here are the details. The LG V20 gets twin cameras at the rear with the main unit being a 16-megapixel primary camera with F1.8 Aperture and support for Optical Image Stabilization (Standard Angle). Apart from this, there is an 8-megapixel F2.4 secondary camera with a wide angle lens. The third camera on the LG V20 is at the front – this one being a 5-megapixel camera, again with a wide angle lens and an F1.9 aperture promising great selfies. The phone is also capable of high-quality video recording and can capture videos in 4K resolution with OIS.

The LG V20 will sport a large 3,200 mAh battery that the company claims will provide ample juice to last an entire day. However, it does fall short of the capacities offered by competing devices. As expected of a device in its class, the LG V20 does get Quick Charge 3.0-compatible through its USB-C jack. Also note that unlike most handsets in its class, the battery on the LG V20 is removable. This, however, does mean that the V20 does not get any kind of water resistance abilities.

Another key element of the LG V20 is its audio playback capabilities, The phone features a dedicated 32-bit quad DAC setup that promises audiophile grade audio quality. LG has tied up with Bang & Olufsen who helped them helped fine tune the playback performance on the LG V20. As expected, the phone supports all the popular lossless music formats including Apple Lossless and boats of a 72-stage volume control. The LG V20 also gets a high-quality microphone that the company claims is capable of recording without distortion even in loud environments. What’s more, you can save the recorded audio in a lossless format for the highest quality possible. The Bang & Olufsen collaboration also means that the phone would come bundled with a special B&O Play H3 earphones in select markets.
