Teyana Taylor: Singer Drops Mildly-NSFW Video For ‘Champions’ Remix, Signs Up For ‘Hip Hop Squares’ And ‘The Breaks’

Two weeks ago, most media outlets didn’t even know her name, which caused a bit of controversy, as expressed by MTV. But now, nearly everyone is familiar with the enigmatic entertainer known as Teyana Taylor.

The Kanye West/GOOD Music protégé, who blew peoples’ minds with her razor-sharp dance moves and toned abs in the MTV Video Music Awards-premiered “Fade” video, is wisely using her appearance in the oft-conversed about clip to re-catapult herself back into the mainstream. First up, Taylor’s own visual for the remix to the West-assisted single, “Champions,” dropped Monday night to rave reviews and even more talk about the 25-year-old’s stunning body.

As noted by Love B. Scott on Tuesday, the music video, which features a nude Teyana posing with guns while slathered in gold paint for modesty purposes, was created out of a mass of snapshots taken by photographer Sasha Samsonova. If anyone thought “Fade” was sexy, they haven’t seen anything yet. Feel free to check out the clip for the “Champions” remix below, but just as with “Fade,” know that it is somewhat NSFW. Proceed with caution.

On top of reviving her music career, which was last heard by fans with her self-released The Cassette Tape 1994 mix tape in 2015, Taylor is also planning to step in front of television cameras for two new projects: Hip Hop Squares, a VH1 reboot of the classic game show Hollywood Squares, and The Breaks, a continuance of the January, 2016, same-named TV movie that followed three friends who were hoping to make it big in the rap game.

Taylor will, as mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter, be seen in a recurring role on The Breaks as a rapper who signs to the label headed by main character Barry Fouray, initially portrayed by Wood Harris. Original cast members joining Harris are Tristan “Mack” Wilds (90210), and Evan Handler of Sex and The City fame. All are set to return for the series, which is based on the 2011 best-selling novel, The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop by Dan Charnas. The Breaks is currently set to air sometime in 2017.

When it comes to Hip Hop Squares, the revival, produced by rapper and actor Ice Cube, who is also set to participate as “center square,” will follow a similar formula to that of Hollywood Squares. Notable guests, such as Mob Wives star Drita D’Avanzo, and Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta mainstay (and mom-to-be) Joseline Hernandez, who teased her participation via Instagram recently, will be quizzed on their knowledge of pop culture events, as well as their common smarts. The show will be distributed by CBS Television — such as it was with the 1998-2004 revival — and will air sometime in the fall.

Although the onslaught of Taylor in the mainstream may come across as being too much, she actually mentioned not too long ago that she was about to be pretty busy. In an interview with Vogue that was mentioned by the Inquisitr and released just hours after the release of “Fade,” Teyana shared that on top of breaking back into entertainment, she was also hoping to release an exercise DVD that focused on dance.

“I’m working on a new album,” Taylor revealed, along with her upcoming appearances on Hip Hop Squares and The Breaks. “[In fact], I’m actually trying to drop a new record in about two days. [The ‘Fade’] video was such a surprise for me [because] I’m sitting here trying to rearrange everything. And now, the newest thing on my agenda is to definitely get this DVD going!”
