Chris Tomlin’s ‘Good Good Father’ Becomes New Children’s Book

As if he didn’t have enough on his plate already, Christian music artist Chris Tomlin and Tommy Nelson Publishing has just announced that Tomlin has completed his first children’s book entitled Good Good Father. Based on the popular single of the same name, the book is to be released on October 4, just prior to the release of his new album, Never Lose Sight, which will be released on October 21.

Co-written by Pat Barrett, Good Good Father tells the story of a bear named Tucker who meets numerous animals who each know great characteristics about their king, but have limited views on what makes this king “good.” Together, they find out just how great the king’s love is for them. Similar to C. S. Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe story, the Good Good Father is an allegory story where the king, who is also a lion, represents Jesus.

“This is a precious story that will leave children with a greater assurance that God truly is a good, good Father and they are loved by Him,” states today’s press release.

Chris Tomlin is both a Grammy and Dove Award-winning artist who has written so many worship songs that it is believed that more of his songs are sung every week in churches across the country than any other songwriter in the world. He 10 ten albums to his name, 13 No. 1 radio singles, 21 Dove Awards, and one Grammy. But more importantly, Chris enjoys being a husband and father to his two daughters.

“What an exciting journey to write my first children’s book,” said Tomlin. “Being a dad makes this so special. It’s my prayer that Good Good Father helps children understand the amazing reality that we can call God our Father, that we are His beloved sons and daughters. It’s a simple, yet powerful story—one that has been kid-tested in my own home and a joy to watch my girls experience.”

The children’s inspirational book is being published with a partnership between Tommy Nelson (a division of Thomas Nelson Publishing) and Passion Publishing. Good Good Father is co-written by Pat Barrett, also a worship leader and co-writer of the original song. The book is illustrated by Lorna Hussey. Hussey is an author and illustrator whose works include Not This Bear: A First Day of School Story, Little Lost Unicorn, and Rabbit’s Winter Walk.

“Just as they make worship so accessible, Chris and Pat help little ones experience and understand the overwhelming love of God,” said Laura Minchew, senior vice president and publisher of Gift Books, Children’s Books and New Media at Thomas Nelson. “Children have so many thoughts about what God is like. This endearing, yet profound book helps children (and adults) see that God is a teacher, a warrior, a doctor, a provider, a musician, and so much more because first of all He is truly a good, good Father.”

Meanwhile, Tomlin is gearing up for the “Worship Night In America: An Evening Of Unity And Prayer For Our Country” event to be held in many movie theaters all across the country on October 25.

“The church should be about prayer,” Tomlin said. “Worship Night In America will bring together the entire church from all backgrounds and regions to do what matters most – worship our Father and unite in prayer for our country.”

The prayer event will include Max Lucado, Louie Giglio, Matt Redman, Matt Maher, Phil Wickman, Kim Walker-Smith, and Tasha Cobbs. This is a follow-up to the other Worship Night events that happened during the summer at Madison Square Garden and New York City, NY, and The Forum in Los Angeles, CA.
