Apple iPhone 7: New iOS Device Likely To Be Announced This Week, Phone Will Feature Enhanced Display, More Memory, And Might Be 100% Waterproof

The Apple iPhone 7 is expected to be announced soon. With September just around the corner, fans are buzzing about what the new phone might look like and what it will be able to do. Some of the features are groundbreaking, others not so much, but all are nice to have.

According to reports, the new iOS device may be waterproof as well as having additional device memory and new display features. Perhaps even more exciting, AppleInsider.com reported that the new smartphone is likely to be unveiled at a media event sometime this week.

Announcing a new phone just before it’s due to arrive has traditionally been the tech titan’s style. Given that thousands camp out to get a peek at the new device when it releases each year, we’d say it’s working. Here’s a peek at some of the highlights that the next-generation handset will boast.

Easy On The Eyes

The new device will come with True Tone Display, a technology that iPhoneFAQ.com notes allows the device to adapt to surrounding light. This may not sound like a huge deal, but anyone who has ever tried to read an ebook or watch a video at night will know that this can prevent eye strain and make for a more user-friendly experience.

Research also shows that limiting your exposure to blue light (IE the type that comes from phone screens) before you go to bed can lead to better-quality sleep. This may be in response to Android phones, which recently introduced a similar feature called “Night Mode” for reading the screen at night.

A Smarter Smartphone

Whispers have been saying for some time that the new iOS device will have different memory options than its predecessors. The last generation of smartphones came in 16, 32, and 128 GB models, whereas the new smartphone is said to be eliminating the 16GB option.

The reason behind this is pretty muddy, but most likely it’s to offer consumers more memory to play around with. Nobody wants to buy a 16GB device only to find out that a decent part of that memory is dedicated to the OS and its features right out of the box. Sizes of 128 GB and 32GB give users more space and thus more power over what content they’ll add.

Brace Yourselves: A Waterproof iPhone Is Coming

A Waterproof smartphone has been in the cards for Apple for some time now. As BGR.com mentioned, the lack of waterproofing on phones was one of Apple customers’ biggest complaints about the devices (the other being battery life).

Samsung had been pursuing waterproof devices for some time, and now their Galaxy S7 is mostly indestructible, even after heavy submersion. Rumors are the next Apple smartphone will step up its waterproof qualities, but they may still not be at the same level as the Galaxy S7. Whereas old devices could withstand a splash or two, the iPhone 7 and might be able to stand more serious water damage.

Live From California…

If you’re interested in what Apple’s unveiling next, Vox.com mentions that you can watch a live stream of the media event this Wednesday at 10 a.m. Pacific, or 1 p.m. if you’re on the east coast. The event is hosted in San Francisco, and will also cover updates to the Apple Watch. To tune in, you’ll want to click over here.

Apple’s new model smartphone sounds exciting, but investors seem to be acting cautiously. Some long-time Apple fans, too, are none too happy about the change in design, which includes a missing headphone jack. Others have pointed out that the iPhone 7 doesn’t seem radically different enough from older iOS devices to generate a lot of excitement.

Still, iPhones are known for being reliable inside and out, so they’re a solid bet for a play or work phone. What do you think of the new iPhone? Does it excite you, or give you a case of the “meh’s”? Let us know if you’ll be snagging one when it comes out this month.
