Two Dead Virginia Tech Students Found In Jefferson National Forest

Blacksburg, VA (AHN) – Montgomery County police found Thursday the bodies two Virginia Tech students in the Jefferson National Forest. They bore bullet wounds in their bodies.

A passerby reported finding the bodies of David Lee Metzler, 19, of Lynchburg, and Heidi Lynn Childs, 18, of Forest in the area of Caldwell Fields off Craig’s Creek Road 12 to 15 miles from the campus around 8 a.m. Metzler’s body was found inside a car while Childs’ body was found outside the car. There was no murder weapon on site.

Metzler was in his second year at Virginia Tech taking up industrial and systems engineering. Childs was a sophomore biochemistry student.

An autopsy is being conducted on the bodies at the coroner’s office in Roanoke.

Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger issued condolences to the victims’ families and appealed to the public for information that will help solve the double homicide case.
