Britney Spears has had enough of the tabloid stories about her performance at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. Last month, the pop star returned to the stage nearly a decade after opening the 2007 awards ceremony.

It appears that the legendary Ms. Britney Spears has had enough of the tabloids treating her like a “punching bag.” Spears is threatening to sue In Touch Weekly over an alleged story, which has not been published yet, reports Gossip Cop. It is said to have a series of allegations about the singer’s experience at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. An alleged insider told In Touch that Spears acted erratically at the event. One of the claims is that Spears was not acting like herself and using a British accent.

Britney’s lawyer says that the story is “utterly false, highly defamatory, and completely offensive to Ms. Spears.” In Touch, however, still has plans to run the story in an upcoming issue. They have informed Britney’s rep that the story will still run no matter what. If the story ends up being published, Britney will then take legal action. A source told TMZ that this is just one of the long list of lawsuits that will be filed to end the constant tabloid stories about the pop princess.

Spears has already received a lot of criticism for her Video Music Awards comeback, notes the Hollywood Gossip. She received flack for lip-syncing and not being as energetic as she was when she first hit the scene. Some critics didn’t like Spears’ performance with G-Eazy, finding it rather sleazy when she placed her hand over his crotch.

There was almost a kiss between Britney and G-Eazy that led to fans to speculate about it on social media. Britney made it clear in an interview days after the performance that G-Eazy did not try to kiss her and claimed that he has a girlfriend. Since Britney was not herself in 2007, it’s clear that she’s back and better than she was nine years ago.

Radar Online previously reported that Spears was “freaking out” over her big VMAs return. An alleged insider told the online tabloid that Spears has been frantic about the release of her new album and her performance.

“Britney has been stressed out so much over her album dropping at the same time as she is rehearsing for her biggest dance routine yet! She knows that she has to kill it at the VMAs this weekend and she is doing a medley that will include some of her new music. Britney is determined to turn it all around Sunday night. On top of that, her father, Jamie, is all over her case and he is stressing her out. Britney is also really scared that “Glory” will not wow her diehard fans.”

The tabloid story is somewhat true since she did reveal that she was anxious leading up to her MTV VMAs performance. In an interview with radio station 103.5 KTU, Spears admitted that she was having some jitters.

“I still get very nervous [about the awards]. You’re not alive [if you don’t]. I’m very alive,” as cited by Fox News.

Even though she’s the one and only Britney Spears, she admits that performing along with other big artists might have something do with her nerves, notes Glamour. Britney even had to perform right after Beyoncé, which didn’t seem right to most fans.

“Every time I’ve performed there, it’s always been one of those really big, nerve-racking experiences, and the people that come, those celebrities, are so much fun and different. I still get very nervous,” she said.

The singer has opened up about her struggles with anxiety, which is not to be taken lightly. Spears has endured a long battle with anxiety, which was at its worst when she had her highly-publicized breakdown in 2007. In her cover story for Marie Claire, Spears explained how she dealt with the disorder and how she handles it these days.

“I was so under scrutiny. If a hair was out of place, I’d be so anxious. I would get very anxious about so many things. Becoming a mother and being with my boys [Jayden, 9, Sean Preston, 10] has made me so much more accepting of myself. I’m their mom, whatever. That has been a really big thing for me over these last few years.”

Anxiety is not something that should be mocked. So, it’s totally understandable if Britney wants to go after some these tabloids that still poke fun at her mental health and past demons.
