Kate Winslet On The Types Of Roles She Refuses To Play, And Names The Most Professional Actor She’s Ever Worked With

Kate Winslet wants to focus on playing strong women, according to CBS. The Titanic star may have turned 40-years-old but it doesn’t mean her acting career is about to end, as Winslet has many plans on how to progress her career.

In her interview with Gotham, Kate Winslet revealed that she is tired of playing leading roles (it’s been nearly two decades), and she wants to focus on representing strong women instead. Even if it’s some small roles, she is ready to move on.

“I am definitely moving away from playing a certain type of character: women who were trapped, women who were stuck, women who were looking for a way out.”

It’s been almost two decades since Kate Winslet had her breakthrough role in Titanic alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, who won an Oscar earlier this year. It’s not clear what motivated the actress to make such a big change in her acting career, but her 40th birthday, which she celebrated last year, may have had something to do with it.

“I want to go rocketing towards 40. I really do. I want to celebrate who I am, what I’ve learned, how hard I’ve worked, and how much more I’ve still got in me.”

Kate Winslet also had a few good words to say about her Steve Jobs co-star Michael Fassbender, saying that he doesn’t have an ego at all. And most moviegoers would think he does, especially after seeing him play Erik Lehnsherr in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Edwin Epps in 12 Years a Slave.

In fact, Kate Winslet claims Fassbender is “the most professional actor” she has ever worked with. And that’s after playing against DiCaprio in Titanic and Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

“In a funny kind of way, Michael and I are cut from the same cloth.”

Kate Winslet also thinks that she shares the same kind of sensibility with Fassbender and their upbringings are “fairly similar.” Both Winslet and Fassbender got into acting at an early age and learned the craft on the go.

In other news, Natalie Portman, Kate Winslet, and fellow superstar actors want kids around the world to make a change, according to InStyle. The actresses are part of a star-studded group of celebrities who joined forces to record an inspirational video and empower kids to make a change in their life.

Apart from Kate Winslet and Natalie Portman, Orlando Bloom and Jennifer Hudson also contributed to the project, which has the mission to empower kids to make a change in their community.

The 30-second inspirational video begins with Hudson saying she pledges to make a difference every day. The video serves as a promo for the upcoming We Day telecast, which includes Kate Winslet, Portman, Bloom, Common and others talking about the importance of helping youth to have their potential fully open.

When it comes Kate Winslet’s turn, the Titanic star wants kids to feel like there is no limit to what they can do in their lives and what they can achieve. The aim of the We Day project is to get young kids involved in service projects as well as get them prepared to go back to school.

In addition to that, with their inspirational calls, Kate Winslet, Portman, and others hope to encourage youth to work on domestic social issues and make changes in their communities. The second annual We Day broadcast was held on August 28 and saw performances from such stars as Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Common, Ciara and Nick Jonas.

The We Day program already involves over 2.4 million students who have pledged to make changes in their communities.
