WWE Rumors: Is Roman Reigns Cheating?

The WWE rumors surrounding one of wrestling’s most controversial figures continues. Now, the rumors are abounding that WWE superstar Roman Reigns is, in fact, cheating, but on what, and with what? What are these rumors really all about?

According to Rolling Stone, this most explosive of WWE rumors stems from the whole “illegal vest” controversy that has managed to find its way to the online petition site Change.org. The petition on the site states that Reigns — who has had his share of woes from the company thanks to his violation of the nebulous “wellness policy” — has an “unfair advantage” over his opponents because of the vest, which has damaged the integrity of the sport. The petition further reads as follows.

“Roman Reigns has been systematically breaking the rules of Admiral-Lord Mountevan’s Unified Rules of Professional Wrestling through the use of illegal body armor to protect himself during the course of matches with legitimately dressed competitors, and has been doing so throughout his career. We require swift action that prohibits the use of this body armor in all future WWE contests by Mr. Reigns and anyone else.”

The petitioner promises to deliver the signed petition to people such as Barack Obama, Jack Tunney, John McCain, “Mankind” Mick Foley, and the McMahons, if it reaches the goal of 5000 signatures. As of this writing, the petition has received almost 3700 signatures. No doubt, of course, that President Obama will be delighted to enter this into law before he leaves office in January 2017. (That was sarcasm…)

The vest controversy aside, other WWE rumors surrounding Roman Reigns’ cheating has, literally, divided the wrestling world in half. Forbes Magazine reports that when Reigns topped PWI‘s Top 500 wrestlers list, the WWE fandom lost its collective mind. Stemming in large part from the “illegal vest” controversy, fans have taken to Twitter to proclaim to PWI that, literally, anyone is better than Reigns to top the list, ranging from modern favorites like Kevin Owens & A.J. Styles to “old time” classics like Nakamura and Samoa Joe.

Despite the fan’s discontent, the choosing of Roman Reigns as the top wrestler in the world by PWI is a sign that the embattled superstar is well on his way to gaining mainstream respect, regardless of the controversy that plagues him along the way. And Reigns, himself, seems to be pleased with the new honor, giving his response to the “haters” upon receiving the news.

Regardless of all the WWE rumors surrounding whether Roman Reigns did, in fact, cheat, there are still plenty of publications in the wrestling world who believe that Reigns is a good wrestler, and deserving of all the accolades he receives. Bleacher Report’s in-depth analysis on the Roman Reigns cheating scandal — and his PWI win — breaks it down for everyone in very simple (and reasonable) terms.

According to the respected sports site, they believe that various WWE rumors have plagued Reigns from the minute he left The Shield and struck off as a solo fighter. While many fans perceive him as lacking technical skill, his fights against Rusev prove quite the opposite. Second, for a guy that has no skill, he sure has managed to give five-star performances against A.J. Styles, John Cena, and Randy Orton. Finally, even though he’s certainly a wrestler that garners news headlines, his “story line” has never been properly developed until recently, and it can easily be argued that he was a WWE superstar that reached the top before his time came due.
