Rasheed Wallace has unretired and joined the New York Knicks for the upcoming 2012-2013 season.

According to a league source who spoke on the condition of anonymity with ESPN the veteran forward had been seriously contemplating his retirement choice after working out with the Knicks last Saturday.

Wallace played in the NBA for 15 years before retiring after finishing out his career with the Boston Celtics during the 2009-2010 season.

The source claims that Rasheed Wallace has not yet signed a deal with the Knicks but that he is expected to show up to the first day of camp on Tuesday.

The NBA veteran took and past his physical last week which led to team workout permission.

An official announcement for the 38-year-old’s return to the NBA is expected to arrive on Monday.

Wallace’s longtime agent Bill Strickland has refused to comment on the Wallace/Knicks deal.

In his new position Wallace will likely play back up to power forward Amare Stoudemire who is widely known for his ability to create technical fouls .

Other veterans on the New York Knicks roster include Jason Kidd, 39, Marcus Camby, 38, and Kurt Thomas, 39.

ESPN believes Rasheed Wallace will sign a contract with the New York Knicks worth the veteran minimum of $1.7 million.
