‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7: Too Many Communities And New Characters? Some ‘TWD’ Fans Worried About Overkill

Jesus warned Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead that his world was about to get bigger. He wasn’t kidding and now TWD fans are wondering if it’s going to get too big with all of the new communities, leaders, and characters that will be introduced in Season 7.

There may be potential spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 7 ahead. Do not continue reading if you don’t want to risk finding out any details about the zombie apocalypse TV show.

Toward the end of the season finale of TWD, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was finally introduced. Fans had been waiting for his debut for a long time. Unfortunately, viewers were not too happy that the last 12 minutes showed Negan giving a speech, but not who ended up being Lucille’s victim. Months later and people are still talking about the cliffhanger.

Once the official trailer for The Walking Dead Season 7 was released at Comic-Con, the conversation started to include what to expect, such as new communities, leaders, and survivors. Besides Negan and the Saviors, there is the Hilltop Colony. It is already known that Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Shiva, and The Kingdom will first appear in Episode 3. However, that isn’t all. There will be other communities and leaders with various styles introduced in the upcoming season.

In the comments on a post by The Spoiling Dead Fans, one TWD viewer wondered if it was going to be too much. Thinking about his statement, he might be right. It is true that the world is bigger than Alexandria thought. Fans want to and should meet new characters. However, how many are going to debut in the first half of Season 7? Will there just be a few added at a time or will viewers be completely overwhelmed?

Another commenter agreed and explained that it will be impossible to identify and get attached to so many new characters. Even though viewers have complained before about slow episodes (for character development), it is an important part of television and film. If people feel they have no connection or emotions to any characters, then there is no passion and no real reason to keep watching. Learning about the characters and feeling like a part of Rick’s group is one reason why The Walking Dead fans are some of the most passionate in the world.

On the other hand, other commenters feel that the new characters are in The Walking Dead Season 7 for one reason: to show the huge impact Negan has on their communities. To reveal just how widespread and strong his grip is. If that is the case, then it might make him seem even more threatening.

There is also the possibility that a lot of the new characters are thrown in just so they can be killed in the war. Fans expect a few main characters to die. People who have read the comic books say that a lot of people lose their lives during the battle against Negan. Alexandria is a relatively small group right now. So, many of these newbies might be there to be a casualty.

What do you think of all these new communities, leaders, and survivors that are going to be introduced in The Walking Dead Season 7? Do you think they serve a purpose or will it be overkill? With so many new characters in TWD, will it take the focus off of Rick, Carl, Michonne, Daryl, Maggie, Glenn, and the others? Will it take the importance off of Negan? How will all these new characters be involved in the war, if they are part of it at all?

The Walking Dead Season 7 premieres October 23 on AMC.
