‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’: Is Orson Krennic And Galen Erso’s Relationship In Prequel Book In Sync With Darth Vader’s Warpath To Find Death Star Plans?

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has characters pursuing their goals, but now, in the Catalyst prequel book, comes a tale told between Director Orson Krennic and scientist Galen Erso. The synopsis describes a situation where Erso, who is played by Mads Mikkelsen in the movie, seems to have formed an obligatory relationship to the Republic officer.

Addressing Galen Erso’s Relationship With Orson Krennic

It seems the Rogue One prequel book delves into Galen’s knowledge of laser technology that would later be contributed to the Death Star. The technology is touted as “energy-focused research” in the synopsis and has caught the interest of Director Krennic, according to Star Wars Underworld.

“Galen’s energy-focused research has captured the attention of both Krennic and his foes, making the scientist a crucial pawn in the galactic conflict. But after Krennic rescues Galen, his wife, Lyra, and their young daughter, Jyn, from Separatist kidnappers, the Erso family is deeply in Krennic’s debt.”

It appears that Krennic was a hero to the Erso family, and Galen is offered an opportunity to continue his laser research. The Republic is willing to offer him all that he needs to move forward even though they think the director will use it in an unselfish fashion.

The Star Wars prequel book’s plot thickens, as there could be deception at play, and that’s quite telling of a forming dictatorship.

Mikkelsen has a history of letting things slip when it comes to his character in the upcoming Star Wars flick. An interview with Radio Times over at the London Film and Comic-Con revealed that he’s the father of Jyn Erso and a scientist.

“He’s the father of our main character Felicity Jones, and at the same time he is a scientist. And then uh, if people have watched the other films I’m sure they can add two and two.”

The Star Wars: Rogue One theory suggests that this connection could be the reason why Jyn Erso was selected for the mission, considering she would probably have first-hand knowledge of the Death Star inside and out.

Princess Leia Organa Went Rogue?

In Star Wars: A New Hope, Darth Vader boards the Alderaan ship and interrogates Princess Leia about the Death Star plans, according to StarWars.com. He’s sure that this time, it wasn’t a diplomatic trip, and they picked up transmissions beamed to the ship by rebel spies.

Remember Darth Vader choking a soldier on the ship showing his violent side? Perhaps this moment happened somewhere around the time he was on a serious, violent rampage. Chances are he was in duress because sensitive materials being at risk.

According to Digital Spy, Vader is suppose to be dreadfully violent in Rogue One. The audience should expect to see “decapitated rebels, people being dismembered by Vader throwing his sword [and] levitating bodies to make human shields.”

So perhaps the choked soldier got off easy in A New Hope as Vader’s temper tantrum was subsiding?

“You part of the rebel alliance and a traitor! Take her away!”

Are The Ersos’ Going Rogue?

Darth Vader’s command to have the princess detained could, in theory, run in parallel with Orson Krennic’s relationship with Galen Erso. Considering that they reached a deal to work on the deadly laser technology in the Catalyst novel, Galen could have turned traitor or gone rogue at some point with the Death Star plans.

Perhaps it was during this timeline that both Darth Vader and Krennic were on the warpath in pursuit of the plans. We know for sure this happened in A New Hope, but Krennic’s pursuits are in question.

Is his motivation like Vader’s in locating the plans? There was a presumption by IDigital Times that there could be a connection with kyber crystals, which is a resource responsible for the manufacturer of lightsabers and the Death Star’s deadly laser technology. There is also the notion that the Star Wars: Rogue One novel could very well explain the twisted nature of the Erso family and Director Orson Krennic.

Did Krennic finally catch up to Jyn Erso’s father, interrogate him, and kill him? Was this the catalyst that set forth Jyn’s mission to join the rest of the rebel alliance to find the plans and transmit them to the Alderaan ship in A New Hope?
