Full Moon Features has bestowed upon the masses a trailer for their upcoming sequel Puppet Master X: Axis Rising. Is it any coincidence that a company called Full Moon would release a preview of their latest cinematic endeavor on the same weekend as the Harvest Moon? Probably, but it’s still a great opportunity for some unexpected press.
According to Icons of Fright, Full Moon Features’ Puppet Master X: Axis Rising is the 10th entry in the long-running franchise, which finds a group of individuals being menaced by pint-sized dolls with a hankering for murder and mayhem. Puppet Master is considered to be the most successful independent direct-to-video series in the history of cinema, spanning several decades and a slew of motion pictures.
Full Moon describes the plot of Axis Rising as follows:
“After foiling a plot to blow up an American arms plant, Danny Coogan and his girlfriend, Beth, quickly find that their troubles have just begun. One of Toulon’s mysterious Puppets has been kidnapped by the Nazis, and under the wicked, watchful eye of the occultist Commandant Moebius, the Puppets’ life-giving serum is synthesized to create a master race of unstoppable soldiers.”
Charles Band and Full Moon Features have generated quite a bit of cash using the Puppet Master franchise over the years. In addition to nearly a dozen full-length motion pictures, the deadly puppets have appeared in two comic book miniseries and are currently featured in a line of high-quality toys and collector’s items.
The series took a six-year break following the release of Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys, though Full Moon and director David DeCoteau would later reboot the franchise with their 2010 effort Puppet Master: Axis of Evil.
Puppet Master: Axis Rising, produced by Full Moon Features founder Charles Band, is slated to arrive on DVD and Blu-ray on October 9. When you’re ready, the trailer for this low-budget, direct-to-video endeavor lies below.
