Ryan Gosling As Christian Grey: ’50 Shades Of Grey’ Author Weighs In

Ryan Gosling might well be chosen to play Christian Grey in the film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey, but the book’s author says she had nothing to do with that rumor getting started.

According to rumors, author E L James’s husband Niall Leonard thought Ryan Gosling would be perfect for the role, People noted.

But E L James told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show that it was all actually a misunderstanding, TheCelebrityCafe.com noted.

“As usual, it’s all been misreported,” E L James told Ryan Seacrest. “No, my husband has not spilled the beans.”

She continued: “What happened is that his local paper… reported on my husband being the inspiration for Christian Grey. Underneath it, they put a picture of Ryan Gosling as well. So, that’s how that [rumor] came about.”

E L James was a bit coy as to whether she had someone in mind for the steamy role, and refused to give names of any candidates.

“[It’s] far too early in the process,” she says.

If it’s true that Ryan Gosling is in the running to play Christian Grey, he would have some competition. Other actors reportedly up for the role include Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Pine, and Ian Somerhalder.

Whoever plays the role, the whole experience has been a whirlwind ride for E L James.

“I wasn’t prepared for all this [attention],” she told Seacrest. “This whole roller coaster has been completely mind-blowing.”
