‘Deadpool 2’: Cable Campaign Still Pushed By Stephen Lang For Cast Part Following 2016 Movie, ‘Don’t Breathe’ Actor Retweets Fan Art — Is Kyle Chandler A Good Choice?

Deadpool 2’s Cable character is a role the Don’t Breathe actor Stephen Lang is anxiously wanting to play, and as you can tell from the recent creepy movie trailer, he does have great adaptation and hand-to-hand combat skills. An interview over at Screen Slam indicates he plays a blind man that’s very capable. That said, how do you think Lang could translate his capable hands over to Cable?

How the Deadpool 2 Cable Campaign Got Started

Stephen Lang spoke with Mashable regarding his “lay some cable” campaign and how he’ll encourage his fans by retweeting their art for the purpose of keeping his campaign fueled.

“It kept cropping up on the Internet that I should play Cable. The extent of what I did was, one day I was in the gym and I tweeted, ‘let’s lay some Cable,’ and that became construed as my campaign for the part.”

The Deadpool 2 movie role isn’t a part in which Lang had been approached to portray, but he figures that the higher-ups may be aware of it. Perhaps he’s being scouted unbeknownst to him?

As far as Stephen is concerned, he’s confident he’ll be able to do the Deadpool movie character right. An interview over at IGN revealed how he got the whole thing started via Twitter.

“Plus, I think I’d do a pretty bang-up job with the part. Having said that, understand that my obligation is to the largest, most successful film ever made, so Avatar takes precedence.”

Keeping In Shape For Certain Roles

In the 80s, Lang frequented a dojo in lower Manhattan. So along with his acting, he brought focus to his performance chops via martial arts. However, according to Energy Times, Stephen had foregone his fighting prowess in the pursuit of acting. In fact, he got tired of it, but he’s not tired of pushing the future X-Men Cable character.

“Work took over. and in a way I suppose I garnered what I wanted to get out of it and it was just time to move on. The deeper you get into karate the more responsibility you have to continue on. It’s one of those disciplines that can take over your life. I got tired of fighting, too.”

However, he still keeps in shape just in case a future opportunity requiring combat skills comes around and at 64 he thinks he’s capable of “laying Cable” for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2.

“The type of roles I look for, and the types of roles I’m mostly considered for, has to do with a certain kind of a look. A lot of times they are in shape.”

Do you think Deadpool 2 will invite him for the Cable look?

Are Stephen Lang Or Kyle Chandler Good Cable Choices?

Today, Comicbook.com commentator Brandon Davis took to Facebook and gave his thoughts regarding the recent report of Lang’s enthusiasm to play Cable. The dialogue can be found at the 4:30 mark.

“I saw don’t Don’t Breathe this weekend. While he was good, the movie was okay and I don’t know if it sold me on him as Cable.”

Brandon acknowledged that there could be a conflict with the future Avatar flicks and also there is no news about Lang ever being approached by the studios to play the role. The only thing that is known is that Kyle Chandler was rumored to be in talks for the Deadpool 2 movie part and was chosen by director Tim Miller.

So it would seem unlikely for Stephen.

On the other hand Umberto Gonzalez, an author over at Heroic Hollywood acknowledged the Deadpool director’s first choice, but tweeted that “the studio wants a movie star.”

The Deadpool character acting candidates received varying opinions on whether or not Chandler will portray the role accurately. Slash Film said he has the comedic acting chops as seen demonstrated in Peter Jackson’s King Kong movie as well as an authoritarian presence as seen in The Wolf of Wall Street, Broken City, and Zero Dark Thirty.

On the other hand, International Business Times considered Chandler not a good choice for Cable. For instance, it was reported that he lacks the look, done very few action flicks, and lastly doesn’t have the appearance to star in a spin-off movie since the studios believe a spin-off could happen. That said, Liam Neeson is reportedly being eyed for Cable, who has proved to fare well in action movies.

So which Deadpool 2 acting prospect do you think could pull off Cable? The film is set to debut Jan. 12, 2018. For now, see Don’t Breathe to see if you can be sold on Stephen Lang’s future mutant portrayal.
