‘Stranger Things’ Season 2: Here’s What Fans Want To See, Plus, Everything We Know So Far

While the Duffer brothers have been telling fans for a while now what they plan to do in Season 2 of Stranger Things, no official announcement had been made, up until now. Netflix announced Stranger Things 2 with a teaser video that also revealed the title names for all of the episodes in Season 2.

As you can see, fans will get an extra episode in Season 2 of Stranger Things. The full episode titles are below in the order they appeared.

  1. “Madmax”
  2. “The boy Who Came Back To Life”
  3. “The Pumpkin Patch”
  4. “The Palace”
  5. “The Storm”
  6. “The Pollywog”
  7. “The Secret Cabin”
  8. “The Brain”
  9. “The Lost Brother”

As you can see, fans will be treated with an extra episode in Stranger Things 2. Fans can also expect four new characters to be introduced in Season 2, according to an interview the Duffer brothers did with Entertainment Weekly. As yet, there is no news on these characters names, but David Harbour (who plays Hopper in Stranger Things) did mess around with Patton Oswalt on Twitter implying he would be a new cast member. However, Patton then confirmed this was not the case, they were just mucking around.

While there is the confirmation of new characters in Stranger Things 2, there is no concrete news on the fate of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). The Season 1 finale saw Hopper leaving Eggos in the woods. Fans assumed this was because he knew Eleven was out there. The Duffer brothers, though, are hesitant to reveal her fate just yet. In an interview they did with Variety, they suggested some ideas for the fate of Eleven.

“Obviously something happened to her when she destroyed and killed that monster and we don’t know what she went. Hopper is left with this guilt because he sold her out. We wanted to leave it sort of mysterious exactly what he knows… Have there been sightings in the woods or is he hoping she’s out there or has he already made contact with her? We don’t answer any of that, but we like the idea of potentially putting her and Hopper together.”

As the trailer for Stranger Things 2 reveals, Season 2 will take place in 1984 again. However, this was not necessarily always the plan.

“I think we talked like a larger time jump where the kids are older now and it’s a different decade. That’s something we batted around from the very beginning. But for us, there’s still more story here [in the 1980s], there’s still things that are unresolved,” the Duffer brothers revealed to Entertainment Weekly.

While the time frame will remain the same, Stranger Things 2 will take place in Hawkins, Indiana as well as in other locations.

“We will venture a little bit outside of Hawkins,” Matt reveals. “I will say the opening scene [of the premiere] does not take place in Hawkins.”

Stranger Things 2 will follow in the footsteps of Season 1 by copying strong influential movies and people from the ’80s film industry. Season 2 will see the Duffer brothers using director, James Cameron, as an influence. While movie sequels are often maligned thanks to their unoriginal content ripped straight from the first movie, the Duffer brothers are inspired by how James Cameron can make a sequel seem new without compromising on what fans loved about the original.

“I think one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original,” Matt Duffer told Entertainment Weekly.

As for what the fans want, it’s pretty simple: more ’80s nostalgia and bring back Barb. The last request may not be possible, after all, it has been confirmed by Variety that she is definitely dead in Season 1 of Stranger Things (although, do they mean dead, like Jon Snow dead?). However, the Duffer brothers have revealed they plan to delve into the effects of her disappearance more in Stranger Things 2. In an interview the Duffer brothers did with IGN, they revealed there will be “justice for Barb” in Season 2 of Stranger Things.

“Barb will not be forgotten. We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it.”

“It’s not like her parents are like ‘Oh Barb left. She died!’ Season 1 actually takes place over the course of six or seven days – it’s a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with hypothetical Season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened.”
