LGBT Community Hero Brice Ehmig Uses Bagpipe Music To Drown Out Preacher’s Homophobic Rant

It is no secret that the LGBT community and mainstream Christian beliefs have been at odds for decades. However, an enterprising gay woman took a stance against a preacher’s homophobic rant in a creative way.

Brice Ehmig is that gay protester, and she had followed the man around after hearing too much of what she felt was abuse, drowning out his anti-gay message with bagpipe music.

This isn’t the first time the LGBT community and religion have clashed, as earlier this year in Orlando, a gay night club played host to a mass shooting. A man and a group of helpers, all claiming to be working on behalf of ISIS, had opened fire inside the building, ending in the deaths of 50 people in total, including the man responsible for the shooting. Brice decided on a less deadly approach to letting someone know she disagreed with his views.

At Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, a preacher had taken to the campus with a megaphone, spreading the belief that God opposes all relationships other than that between a man and a woman. Such beliefs are soon becoming antiquated as many of the United States have legalized gay marriage. It is now legal for a man to marry another man, or a woman to marry another woman.

One person had tried to deny these rights and it nearly cost her the job. Kim Davis is a marriage license clerk in Kentucky who had refused to grant licenses to gay couples. The State of Kentucky eventually found a loophole that allowed Davis to let applications through without requiring her signature. It was an unconventional solution, but everybody got their wish.

The preacher in Florida had taken a more audible protest, wearing a T-shirt proclaiming “Jesus saves from Hell,” and using a megaphone to attempt to spread his beliefs against the LGBT community. Fourth-year student Brice began playing her bagpipe music to make his message fall short of being heard.

At first, he’d asked her, “Why are you doing this – do you not like the message?”

Brice continued to play the Scottish instrument and drown him out, and she explained to the local news what gave her the inspiration, says the Daily Mail.

“I am a gay bagpiper and I’m proud. I decided since this is my last year at university that I should do things that make me feel brave. After years of dealing with the homophobic comments aimed at me by the preacher, I felt I needed to stand up against these false prophets spewing bigotry. I have fought hard for my rights.”

When the preacher began walking away so his voice could be heard, another man wearing a T-shirt with the words “Porn leads to Hell” approached and handed her a leaflet. Brice responded with a classic bagpipe funeral song even featured in a Star Trek episode, “Amazing Grace.”

After about four minutes of leaving the preacher alone, due to his obvious distaste for her presence, Brice said the preacher had once again started equating the LGBT community with sin. She felt the need to continue with her own harassment using bagpipe music.

Brice says that the preacher had been stating for years that the gay lifestyle is the equivalent of bestiality. His messages had allegedly gone beyond the actual teachings of the Bible as well since he’d been known to comment that “if you wear shorts like that you are asking to be raped,” and stating that studying science was against God.

LGBT community activist Brice Ehmig says that the preacher she drowned out with bagpipes was one of many in a group who says things to get reactions and then posts them on YouTube for all to see. By doing so, they claim to be the victims, allegedly becoming martyrs.

Brice says that their goal is supposedly to educate students about the peace and love of God, but instead, they only seem to be inspiring rage and recording the hostile encounters. In this way, they are allegedly no better than most YouTube channel owners who routinely prank people.

Brice’s bagpipe music may be one of the few times the preacher didn’t get what he wanted from the LGBT community, as she followed up with a kiss from her girlfriend right in front of him.
