‘Harry Potter’: Daniel Radcliffe Returning For ‘Cursed Child’ Movie? [Spoilers]

Is another Harry Potter movie in the works? Following the success of the stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which was also released in book form, rumors are flying about the possibility of another film.

According to the Independent, Warner Brothers is extremely interested in bringing Harry Potter back for a Cursed Child movie, but only if Daniel Radcliffe will reprise his role has the title character. Radcliffe, who portrayed Harry Potter in eight films, would return as an older version of his former character.

Rumors are flying about the possibility of another film with Radcliffe at the helm, but Warner Brothers has denied any plans to continue the franchise. However, one Hollywood source says that the studio is keeping it under wraps until they can finalize plans for the film.

“Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry. However [Daniel Radcliffe] has made it clear that his mind is certainly not focused on returning to the role anytime soon — and that could be until he hits 40.”

Recently, Daniel Radcliffe was asked if he would ever consider returning to the character, to which he replied, “never say never.” Of course, this allowed fans to get their hopes up about the possibility of more movies, books, plays, or anything else Harry Potter related. The franchise continues to live on with the excitement of its fans, who continue to increase in numbers every single day.

Meanwhile, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is all the rage on the stage. The play is doing well, and the script, which was released in book form, sold a record-breaking 680,000 copies in its first three days on shelves.

Warning: Spoilers below.

In The Cursed Child, Harry Potter is a middle-aged man who works at the Ministry of Magic alongside his childhood friend, Hermoine Granger. Hermoine is now the Minister of Magic, and she is married to Harry’s best friend, Ron Weasley. Harry’s middle child, a son named Albus Severus Potter, heads off to Hogwarts, befriends Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius, and is sorted into Slytherin house.

Albus, who can’t live up to his famous father’s reputation, becomes obsessed with turning back time to save Cedric Diggory’s life. However, as Albus and his best friend, Scorpius, try to save Cedric, they find that all they do is cause trouble and alter the future.

In one alternate future, Ron and Hermoine are not married, and in another Harry is dead. This means that Voldemort is still alive, and he rules the wizarding world. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child even brings back some former characters who have died, such as Dumbledore and Professor Snape.

For a Cursed Child movie, it seems that those characters would also need to be part of the storyline. Unfortunately, actor Alan Rickman, who played Severus Snape, died in January after a secret battle with cancer.

Besides Daniel Radcliffe’s return, it also seems that many former cast members would also need to return for the movie to be as popular with the fans as the original franchise. Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, Maggie Smith, and many others would need to reprise their famous roles.

While it seems like a long shot that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will ever be made into a movie, fans are still holding out hope for more content. Luckily, J.K. Rowling’s latest project, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will be released in theaters soon, and that should help with the fans’ Harry Potter withdraw.
