Nikki Reed ‘Devastated’ Over Ian Somerhalder’s Reunion With Nina Dobrev On ‘The Vampire Diaries’ [Report]
Nikki Reed is not looking forward to Nina Dobrev’s return to The Vampire Diaries.
The former Twilight star is reportedly devastated by the thought of Dobrev reuniting with her husband, Ian Somerhalder, onscreen. Will Dobrev’s return to the hit series destroy Reed’s marriage?
Game N Guide reports that things have gotten so bad between Reed and Somerhalder that they are considering filing for divorce. Apparently, their main source of contention is Somerhalder’s willingness to work with Dobrev on Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries.
There are rumors that not only is Somerhalder willing to reunite with Dobrev on the show, but he’s also looking forward to rekindling their romance as well.
Naturally, Reed has not reacted well to the situation and has allegedly been fighting with Somerhalder for weeks now.
Of course, Dobrev’s return to The Vampire Diaries has not been officially confirmed. However, considering the show will end after next season, there is a good chance Dobrev will reprise her role as Elena one final time.
Furthermore, there is little doubt that Dobrev’s involvement in Season 8 would help boost the show’s ratings, which have lagged ever since her departure in Season 6.
Dobrev and Somerhalder dated while working together on The Vampire Diaries. Shortly after, they ended their relationship, Dobrev left the show while Somerhalder found a new love in Nikki Reed.
Somerhalder and Reed have been married for a little over two years now.
Meanwhile, according to Hall of Fame Magazine, the president of The CW, Mark Pedowitz, is optimistic that Dobrev will be back in action for Season 8.
“There are discussions going on with Nina, we’d love to have her back,” Pedowitz revealed.
Despite Pedowitz’s optimism, he did admit that showrunner Julie Plec has a backup plan in case Dobrev turns down the offer to return to the hit series.
At the same time, Somerhalder’s marriage with Reed has shown no outward signs of trouble. Instead, the couple appears to be happier than ever in their relationship and have continued to show their love for each other on social media.
In fact, iTech Post reports that Somerhalder could be a big reason why Dobrev doesn’t want to return to The Vampire Diaries for the final season.
When asked about the likelihood of Dobrev’s return, Somerhalder recently shot down the comeback and refused to give a definitive answer, leading to speculation that his feud with Dobrev was very much alive.
That being said, Dobrev’s character on the show plays an important part in the story, especially in regards to her relationship with Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore.
Indeed, a series finale without Dobrev making some kind of cameo would feel incomplete on many different levels.
For most fans, even a short cameo during the finale would go a long way toward providing closure to Elena’s story.
With Dobrev being an integral part of the show, there is a strong possibility that Plec is willing to push past Somerhalder’s feud to get Dobrev back next season.
Whether or not Plec fulfills her mission for Season 8 is yet to be seen, although she certainly has a lot of road blocks to work through before Somerhalder and Dobrev agree to work together again.
Although Dobrev’s future is still up in the air, fans can at least look forward to seeing more of Somerhalder and Paul Wesley in the near future. Both stars are expected to make an appearance in the new season of The Originals.
The details surrounding the cameos are still murky, although Somerhalder and Wesley are expected to reveal a little more about the main plot line of the series.
The eighth and final season of The Vampire Diaries is scheduled to return to The CW on Oct. 21.
