‘ARK: Survival Evolved’ The Center Update Delayed, ‘Something Big’ Teased For Thursday Release

ARK: Survival Evolved is still set to receive a big update on PC and Xbox One this Thursday, but changes to The Center won’t be included. The map’s developer revealed Tuesday evening the Edge of the World update has been delayed. Meanwhile, Studio Wildcard teased its big reveal for Thursday with what looks like dragon eggs.

As previously covered, map designer Ben Burkart made huge changes to the Edge of the World area of The Center map. This is the cliff area immediately to the west past the Green Obelisk, North and South Mountains, as well as the bridge to the Redwood Island.

Burkart carved a huge cavern play space into the side of the cliffs, which features a river, plenty of buildable space, and an ice palace. The entire area is lit by massive crystals scattered around in the walls and pillars to provide ambiance and the ability to see.

These updates will have to wait, however, as Burkart revealed these changes will not be part of the ARK: Survival Evolved PC patch 246 planned for Thursday. This only has to do with these specific changes to The Center and not the rest of the already announced changes, which includes new dinosaurs like the Tapejara and Archaeopteryx plus more.

“With several things at once like PAX, its best [The Center update] gets pushed a little to ensure the best quality on release!” Burkart explained via his “EvilMrFrank” Twitter handle.

The Xbox One version of ARK: Survival Evolved also has a Thursday, September 1 update planned that includes the Redwood Island plus optimizations for The Center. Those are still set to go. The Edge of the World content update to be released mid-September, but it is not clear if the delay for the PC version of the game will push the console release of the same content back any.

The good news about the delay is this gives more time for players who have built along the Edge of the World cliffs more time to move their bases. Burkart warns the entire run of cliffs are affected from the North to the South and may result in destroyed bases and lost loot when the update goes live.

Meanwhile, Studio Wildcard has been teasing “something big” as part of the Thursday update to both the PC and Xbox One editions of ARK: Survival Evolved. That tease came into focus Tuesday with the release of an image to the game’s website that looks like it was ripped straight from Game of Thrones. Three differently colored eggs can be seen in a nest: black and red, green and purple, and two shades of blue. Could this point to dragons?

The open-world dinosaur survival game already features a dragon, but as a boss creature that is summoned to an arena by hunting down and collecting various artifacts. The image appears to suggest players might be able to tame and/or breed dragons. Another option is the eggs could be something for players to hunt down as part of a new in-game activity.

ARK: Survival Evolved fans will find out for certain thanks to a livestream from PAX West on Thursday, September 1. Studio Wildcard will broadcast from the Seattle convention via its Twitch channel starting at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT.

“If you love ARK, surprises, and scorching hot gameplay, be sure to tune in!” the developer teased.

Here are the current official patch notes for the 246 patch planned for the PC on Thursday.

  • The Gateway, Cross-ARK travel & Cross-Official-Server Transfer
  • New Dino: Tapejara!
  • New Dino: Archaeopteryx!
  • New Structure: Large Ceiling Dino Doors (Particularly useful for Flyer Hangars)
  • Something else very big…

The ARK: Survival Evolved 739 update for the Xbox One is also scheduled for Thursday and will contain the same content plus the content from the 245 series of patches (245.00 to 245.99). In addition to the Redwood Island for The Center, this comes with the Allosaurus, Pelagornis, fishing mechanic, and an attempt to address the Pillar spam issue on PVE servers.
