Colorado Father Nathan Weitzel Reportedly Admits To Deliberately Crashing Car To Kill 2-Year-Old Son [Video]

In an unbelievable and tragic case, Nathan Weitzel, a Colorado father, reportedly tried to kill his 2-year-old son by deliberately crashing his car into a parked vehicle. Nathan Weitzel, 29, reportedly admitted to Arapahoe County law enforcement that the crash, which terrified onlookers on August 21, was no accident. The Colorado father then told sheriff’s investigators that he orchestrated the car wreck in order to end his toddler son’s life.

One witness to the car crash, which took place on a residential street in Centennial, Colorado, at around 11 a.m., said Colorado father Nathan Weitzel clearly didn’t try to slam on the brakes or prevent the accident. That local resident was Cindy Rosa, and she is the one who reported the terrible wreck by calling 911.

“There were no screech marks. There was no hitting brakes. Just this horrible sound.”

According to first responders, the “accident” scene involved two vehicles, one which had been parked on the side of Eudora Way and apparently been deliberately driven into. Fox 2 Now reports that Colorado father Nathan Weitzel’s vehicle was a mangled wreck, and when rescuers got to the car they could hear but not see a child crying.

Apparently, Colorado father Nathan Weitzel had deliberately left the boy unrestrained in order to ensure he died in the wreck.

The 2-year-old was eventually discovered, hidden partially under a seat. He suffered a concussion, a large gash to his forehead, and a broken leg. Much of the toddler’s body is now restrained in a solid cast and he required 20 stitches, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

Colorado father Nathan Weitzel allegedly admitted his culpability and nefarious plans for his innocent son’s life to first responders and investigators. He reportedly told Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputies that he was driving as fast as 75 mph when he deliberately crashed his car in an attempt to kill his child.

“I was trying to kill my son. I did it on purpose.”

According to Nathan Weitzel, he wanted his son dead because he wasn’t cut out for fatherhood. Apparently, the Colorado father found parenthood too much of a responsibility for his liking.

“The reason he wanted to kill his son was because being a father is a big responsibility and he did not think he was man enough to raise a child.”

In the hours leading up to the attempted murder of his 2-year-old, Colorado father Nathan Weitzel reportedly took the little boy on an outing to the park. While there, Weitzel reportedly planned how he was going to kill his son. Allegedly, when he planned for the attempted murder and carried out his plan by wrecking his son, Colorado father Nathan Weitzel was high on cocaine.

According to witnesses to the horrific car wreck and aftermath, the Colorado father did everything in his power to fight against the rescue efforts of first responders. He even reportedly went so far as to try to slit his own throat with broken glass from the crash; witnesses say that firefighters had to physically restrain him from causing himself bodily injury.

Witnesses also reported another disturbing event that allegedly took place at the accident scene involving Nathan Weitzel and his son. According to eyewitness accounts, the Colorado father was actually further abusing his battered and broken 2-year-old after the failed attempt on the child’s life.

“I heard a youngster crying but didn’t see him at first and then finally we saw the top of the baby’s head and saw dad hitting it like he was annoyed by the crying that was happening.”

The Colorado father is facing a handful of very serious charges for allegedly trying to kill his son. All in all, Nathan Weitzel has been charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injuries, second-degree assault, criminal mischief, vehicular assault, attempted first-degree murder, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

The mother of Nathan Weitzel’s son spoke out about the horrible abuse her son endured at the hands of his father, with whom she reportedly had a shared custody arrangement. According to Nancy Lopez, while she’s dealing with disbelief and anger that her child’s father would deliberately try to take the toddler’s life, she’s mostly just glad her son survived and that he is expected to recover.

“He’s such a strong boy and I thank God every day that he’s alive and keeps healing and hopefully, eventually, he’ll be able to walk again.”

At this time, the unnamed 2-year-old is doing well. He’s reportedly been released from the hospital and is being cared for at home by his mother. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Nancy Lopez, a single mom, pay medical and living expenses as she is expecting to have to take months off work in order to see to her child’s recovery.

As for Nathan Weitzel, the Colorado father is currently being held at the Arapahoe County Jail on $500,000 bail.
