Best Movies On Netflix Perfect For Sunday Night That You May Have Missed

Netflix offers a wide variety of movies for their subscribers, and it can be hard to choose the best movies for a Sunday night. Often, Netflix suggests movies because they are Netflix originals, or they are current movies that are popular, but often, classic titles are missed by subscribers. With the weekend close behind, viewers have a chance to escape in one last movie to cap-off their weekend. Whether you are in the mood for a lighthearted comedy, a suspenseful mystery, a romantic story, or a feel-good movie, Netflix has the best movies perfect for a Sunday night.

The Paper Chase (1973)

This classic stars Timothy Bottoms (The Girl Next Door), Lindsay Wagner (Ricochet), and John Houseman (Citizen Kane). A Harvard Law student starts a relationship with his professor’s daughter and struggles with balancing his romance with his schoolwork. This classic is an inspiring drama perfect for a nostalgic Sunday night.

St. Vincent (2014)

Starring Bill Murray, Naomi Watts, and Melissa McCarthy, St. Vincent is a feel-good comedy-drama about a young boy who forms an unexpected bond with a bitter war veteran. The Princess Bride (1987)

This iconic romantic-comedy was one of the most popular movies of the ’80s and features an all-star cast that is practically a who’s who of Hollywood and entertainment: Cary Elwes (Saw), Robin Wright (Netflix’s House of Cards), Peter Falk (Columbo), Fred Savage (The Wonder Years), Carol Kane (Taxi, Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Billy Crystal (Throw Momma from the Train), Wallace Shawn (My Dinner with Andre), and Andre the Giant.

The book is filled with adventure, pirates, giants, swashbucklers, and of course—true love. This lighthearted movie is a must-see for first time viewers and longtime fans will love revisiting this masterpiece.

Turner & Hooch (1989)

Another ’80s classic, Turner & Hooch stars Tom Hanks who plays a detective that takes in a dog of a victim in order to find the murderer. Although it wasn’t too popular among critics, Netflix subscribers have enjoyed revisiting this classic film and the nostalgia of the late 1980s. When looking for comedy movies on Netflix this is a go-to for fans of Tom Hanks.

Casino Jack (2010)

This comedy-drama stars Kevin Spacey, Barry Pepper, and Jon Lovitz, and tells the true story of a Washington DC lobbyist. IMDB gives the synopsis of one of the best movies on Netflix:

The witty banter between Spacey and Lovitz will have audiences laughing at this unfortunate true tale. This is one of Lovitz’s best roles in years and he proves to Netflix viewers that he is as funny now as he ever has been. When searching for an interesting story mixed with humor this is one of the best Netflix movies that you can choose.

Bernie (2012)

In perhaps Jack Black’s greatest role, Bernie is based on a true story and co-stars Matthew McConaughey and Shirley MacLane. Based on a true story, this movie takes place in a small Texas town where an assistant funeral director forms a friendship with a wealthy, and demanding, widow. The widow ends up dead and the director continues handling her affairs as if she were alive. What makes this movie so brilliant and unique is it features real life documentary-like footage throughout the film of the townspeople who expound their views of the incident, and of Bernie.

Bernie received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and is one of the most popular movies offered on Netflix.
