‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Spoilers — Christina Yang Set To Return For Season 13 [Report]

Fans have long hoped Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) would return to Grey’s Anatomy after her move to Switzerland in Season 10.

With Season 13 fast approaching, it looks like Cristina might be headed back to Grey Sloan Memorial. Will fans finally get their wish?

According to Christian Times, Shonda Rhimes plans on focusing on the show’s original characters next season, which would be the perfect atmosphere to see Cristina back, even if her cameo only lasts a short time.

In fact, Kelly McCreary (Maggie Pierce) recently revealed that Season 13 will spotlight the show’s core characters, including Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers).

“After such a long period of time and so many new people coming in and out, they remain the foundational characters of the show,” McCreary told TV Guide. “We’re gonna be spending some more time with them to check in with where they are.”

McCreary added that she was looking forward to focusing on “old, established relationships” in the new season.

Does this mean that Rhimes is bringing Oh back for another season?

Although Rimes has not officially confirmed the reports of Oh’s return, the actress previously revealed that she is willing to cameo on Grey’s Anatomy in the future.

At the same time, Oh also shared her feelings about a possible return with Rhimes.

“I told her, ‘If you guys want to finish it out however you want to finish it out, I’d be more than happy to come back,'” Oh shared.

Of course, bringing Oh back to Grey’s Anatomy would be great for the show’s ratings. After all, Cristina is one of the most beloved characters in the history of the show, and reuniting her with Meredith would be ratings gold.

Bustle is reporting that there is one major problem with bringing Cristina back for Season 13.

In particular, a Cristina cameo would not be healthy for Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) growing relationship with Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), and the last thing fans want to see is a love triangle between the three characters.

There are, however, other ways that Rhimes could incorporate Oh’s character without creating a huge mess with Owen.

For starters, Cristina could help Meredith out, especially after everything she has endured over the past two seasons. With her “person” back in the picture, Meredith might have an easier time coping with the changes in her life.

Apart from her relationship with Meredith, Cristina is one of the best surgeons to ever grace Grey Sloan Memorial. Not only does this give her a way back to the series, but the rest of the doctors could learn a thing or two from her.

Whatever ends up happening with Oh’s return, focusing on the core characters in Season 13 would not be the same without Cristina in the mix.

According to Movie News Guide, Season 12 centered on Meredith and how her life has changed since the tragic death of her husband, Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).

The new season will continue that thread while exploring the changes other characters have undergone between seasons.

Apart from Meredith, Richard, Maggie, Miranda, and Alex, the upcoming season will feature the return of Owen Hunt, April Kepner (Sarah Drew), Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), and Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw).

Additionally, Amelia Shepherd, Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton), Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), Ben Warren (Jason George), Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), and Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) will also be returning for another season.

Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy is set to premiere on ABC on September 22.
