Donald Trump Faces Huge Backlash After Tweeting About Murder Of Dwyane Wade’s Cousin

There was very bad news for NBA star Dwyane Wade this weekend. CNN has the news.

“Nykea Aldridge was walking near a South Side Chicago school Friday to register some of her four children when she was shot in the head, an innocent victim in the crossfire….Aldridge’s cousin, Dwyane Wade, the 12-time NBA All-Star who recently signed a contract with his hometown Chicago Bulls, employed the hashtag #EnoughIsEnough in tweeting about her death.”

The article adds that Aldridge was pushing her infant child in a stroller just around the corner from the Dulles School of Excellence, a turnaround school, when several men started shooting. There has been an outpour of sympathy for Wade on Twitter.

On Saturday, Donald Trump recognized the death of Wade’s cousin according to Fox News.

“Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump tweeted Saturday about the fatal shooting of NBA star Dwyane Wade’s cousin, in another apparent attempt to persuade black voters to back him in November.”

It’s safe to say that some of the responses weren’t very complimentary of Donald Trump.

Perhaps Trump gave a lot of ammunition to news outlets who were already against him. The Daily Beast picked up on their Trump-bashing where they left off yesterday.

“In an attempt to salvage his abysmal standing with minorities, Donald Trump is accusing liberals of being the racists who caused violent crime and poverty in America. It might be the most dangerously ignorant argument he’s made yet.”

Goldie Taylor, the author of the article, harshly asked if there has been a more feckless, disconnected and intellectually lazy major party nominee for president in the modern era? Her answer was no. She then summed up what a lot of Trump’s critics were thinking.

“The fact that the one-time reality television personality originally misspelled Wade’s first name, did not mention Nykea Aldridge by name and failed to extend condolences to the family was largely greeted with derision. As the nation grapples with meaningful solutions to some of our most pressing dilemmas—including how to stem the tide of gun violence—and a family was dealing with a tragic loss, Trump was taking a victory lap,” Taylor said.

According to Uproxx, Actor Don Cheadle certainly called out the Donald for his remarks.

“There have been a lot of reactions to Trump’s politicizing the death, but actor Don Cheadle went out of his way on Saturday to call attention to how inappropriate he felt the tweet was,” said columnist Dave Walsh, who notes that Cheadle called him a “POS” on Twitter and that people of Trump’s ilk are contributors that lead to the “Chicagos” of our country.

Throughout the day, Cheadle had to deal with the anger of Trump supporters.

Donald Trump has been trying to make efforts to reach out to minority communities these past two weeks. According to ABC News, Trump recently addressed a crowd in Dimondale, Michigan.

“You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?” ABC News quotes Trump as saying, even though they note that in Dimondale, only nine people are black out of a town of 1,234 people.

Trump’s efforts to reach out to minorities have mostly been blasted by the general media, but conservatives have praised him for at least attempting to reach out. One can only hope that Donald Trump learns a lesson from his misguided tweet.
