‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13: Are Izzie And Christina Coming Back? Will Amelia Have A Baby? Check Out The Rumors [Video]

Season 12 of the tear-jerking drama Grey’s Anatomy ended in a way nobody expected — Dr. Cali Torres (played by the incomparable Sara Ramirez) exited the show after a drawn-out and emotional custody battle with her ex-wife, Dr. Arizona Robbins.

Not only that, a long-awaited wedding took place between Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), and Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) found out his lady love, Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), is secretly married and is escaping an estranged marriage. Oh, and the Grey’s Anatomy namesake, Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), seems to be getting back in the dating game after the death of her beloved McDreamy. Her lover? None other than Dr. Riggs (Martin Henderson), who is also the sworn enemy of Dr. Hunt and the love interest of Meredith’s half-sister, Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary).

Drama!

With all of the potential storylines, combined with the Grey’s Anatomy unpredictability (literally no one is safe on this show), what might happen in Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy is anybody’s guess.

Not knowing for sure what’s to come in Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy hasn’t stopped the world from speculating, wondering, and even salivating, as they wait for the Season 13 premiere to end their suffering. As The Hollywood Reporter reports, there are several main storylines that fans are expecting to see cultivated in Grey’s Anatomy Season 13. Not only that, rumors have been swirling that devoted fans of the long-running show may be seeing the return of some beloved familiar faces.

One of the most talked-about storylines is the budding marriage of Dr. Hunt and Dr. Amelia Shepherd. Caterina Scorsone, who plays Amelia, is currently pregnant. This is the second time since she became involved in the Grey’s Anatomy universe that Scorsone has been expecting a child. The last time, she was a regular actress on Private Practice(the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off), and her pregnancy was written into the show. This time around, she’s alluded that she doesn’t believe that her real life pregnancy will become part of the Grey’s Anatomy world. This means that fans should probably not expect a little bundle of joy to grace Grey’s Anatomy Season 13. At least not one created by Owen and Amelia.

But, just because it doesn’t sound like Owen and Amelia are going to become parents doesn’t mean that the pair isn’t being set up for their own personal Grey’s Anatomy drama. The Grey’s rumor mill has been spinning out some interesting rumors lately. One of the most pervasive is that Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) could be returning to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital.

For those who aren’t familiar with the series, Cristina Yang is Dr. Hunt’s ex-wife and the love of his life. Her return to the hospital in Grey’s Anatomy Season 13, even for a moment, could spell doom for the newlyweds.

Speaking of returning characters, it has also been rumored that Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) could be coming back to Grey’s Anatomy during Season 13. Unlike Sandra Oh, who left the show on good terms, Heigl burned some bridges with the writers and producers of Grey’s Anatomy when she was cut from the drama seasons ago. So a recurring role (or even brief cameo) by Dr. Stevens during Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 would be something of a miracle. However, it would add some spice to the drama unfurling between Alex and Jo.

Speaking of spicy drama, the budding relationship between Doctors Grey and Riggs seems to spell the end to Meredith Grey’s mourning period. After famously losing her husband (and long-time love interest) in a car accident in Season 11 of Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith disappeared for a year and came back a changed, morose woman. At the end of Season 12, she was finally picking up the pieces. And apparently gluing them back together with the help of some loving from Dr. Riggs.

The problem? Dr. Owen Hunt has some unresolved conflict with Dr. Riggs, who he believes is responsible for his sister’s disappearance and presumed death. Oh, and Meredith’s newly-discovered half-sister thinks that Riggs has his sights set on her. Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy could see the development of a Meredith-Riggs relationship. Or it could see Riggs run away to escape the tumultuous drama with Owen. Or maybe, Riggs will be the wedge that drives Meredith Grey and her sister apart.

It has even been bandied around that Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy could lead to the revelation that Owen’s sister (and Dr. Riggs former love interest) is still alive. Could she show up as part of the cast during Grey’s Anatomy Season 13?

One storyline that fans hope will be revisited in the upcoming season is the relationship between Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) and Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams). The pair divorced and had a baby in Season 12 (in that order), and the season finale featured a dramatic at-home C-section, performed by Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George). The procedure saved both April and her daughter, and opened the door for Dr. Warren to return to the Grey-Sloan surgical internship program, too. The end of Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 saw April and Jackson’s relationship appear stronger than ever, and many fans of the show are hoping that Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 will see the divorced pair reunited as a family with their infant daughter.
