Khal Drogo’s Possible ‘Game Of Thrones’ Return Could Spell Disaster For Daenerys

Characters coming back to life is not uncommon in Game of Thrones. This knowledge makes fans excited especially those who are still yearning for more Khal Drogo scenes. Daenerys Targaryen’s great love died in Season 1 much to the dismay of the tandem’s supporters.

Warning: Possible spoilers ahead!

Recent stories have emerged that Khal Drogo might come back in Game of Thrones Season 7. The stories started to swirl after Jason Momoa shared a photo of him having fun with Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

The Honolulu-born actor also shared a fan art that depicted Khal Drogo as a White Walker. He quipped that he got lucky his wife burned his corpse. He ended the note with “GOT Fo life.”

TMZ quashed the reports of Khal Drogo’s possible Season 7 return. The website claims that Momoa is not filming for the HBO show. The photo of him with Benioff and Weiss was reportedly taken in Ireland at the Guinness Brewery when the company named a brew after Momoa’s beloved character.

Nonetheless, it doesn’t stop fans from being hopeful especially now that the show has already deviated from George R.R. Martin’s books. Following the delay in the release of Winds of Winter, HBO was left with no choice but to continue the show without its book reference.

Khal Drogo’s return would mean a lot for Daenerys. With her husband’s knowledge in warfare, reclaiming the Iron Throne would be a breeze. Once again, some are putting their bets on Melisandre. There are theories pointing out that Khal Drogo might be Azor Ahai.

Not only will Khal Drogo be an asset to his wife’s ambition, but also a great force that can help defeat the White Walkers that will inevitably invade Westeros. Can you imagine Khal Drogo, Daenerys, and Jon Snow’s skills combined?

However, regardless of how promising Khal Drogo’s return might be, it could still spell disaster for Daenerys. If he is indeed the legendary Azor Ahai, Daenerys might be sacrificed just like Nissa Nissa. In the story, Azor Ahai plunged the sword Lightbringer to his wife Nissa Nissa’s heart in order for him to defeat the Great Other.

One thing fans have learned while watching Game of Thrones is to not assume that this or that character is safe. Many find the show irresistible because it consistently aspires to be unpredictable. Martin and the showrunners thrive on surprise narratives, and the death of Daenerys would be one of the show’s most shocking twists.

Even Sophie Turner knows this. In an interview with Variety, she revealed that she’s ready for Sansa Stark’s demise. She joked that should Sansa die, it must be “a long, slow episode-lasting death.”

It is believed that Game of Thrones will have shorter episodes to prepare for its ending, and Turner feels sad about it.

“We kinda always knew it would be seven or eight seasons. It’s really sad. It’s really uncomfortable to think about my life without ‘Game of Thrones.’ Not only has it been like a family — going to see a family every summer — but it’s also been a safety net. When I finish this I don’t actually know what’s going to happen. I might slip into a deep, deep depression because I won’t know what to do with myself. It’s going to be very strange. I feel people are going to miss it dearly.”

HBO executives previously confirmed that they support Weiss and Benioff’s decision. The network wants Game of Thrones to be “one giant story” that does not need to be lengthened just “because people are still watching it.” The network confirmed that they’re “definitely heading into the end game now.”

Do you think Game of Thrones will bring back Khal Drogo and have Daenerys killed to surprise viewers?
