NFL Preseason: Green Bay Packers Vs San Francisco 49ers, Colin Kaepernick Debut

Quarterback controversies are among the most interesting things in the National Football League. According to NFL.com, Colin Kaepernick is expected to make his debut during the preseason game between the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers on Friday night. Kaepernick is trying to regain his starting job from Blaine Gabbert.

When Jim Harbaugh was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, things were going great for Colin Kaepernick. He was one of the brightest stars in the NFL. Kaepernick was the starting quarterback for a dominant team that was a threat to make it to the Super Bowl each year.

Things went downhill for Colin Kaepernick when Jim Harbaugh left for the Michigan Wolverines and was replaced by Jim Tomsula as the San Francisco 49ers head coach. After a couple of bad games, he was unceremoniously replaced as the starting quarterback by former Jacksonville Jaguars star Blaine Gabbert.

Right now, Blaine Gabbert is winning the battle to become the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. A lot of that is because Colin Kaepernick has been unable to play in any of the preseason games because his arm has been suffering from fatigue. Kaepernick has a chance to close the gap in the game against the Green Bay Packers tonight.

Fortunately for the Green Bay Packers, they have no controversy whatsoever at their quarterback position. Despite being held out of the first two preseason games, Aaron Rodgers knows that he is going to be the starter. Packers head coach Mike McCarthy knows that his franchise player does not need the practice.

Backup quarterback Brett Hundley has an ankle injury and will miss the game against the San Francisco 49ers, as reported by CBS Sports. That might require Aaron Rodgers to play a series or two. The move would enable the veteran quarterback to develop a little chemistry with his teammates before the regular season begins.

Aaron Rodgers should be excited about testing out all of his weapons during the game against the San Francisco 49ers. He will have Jordy Nelson, Ty Montgomery, Randal Cobb, Davante Adams, Jared Cook, and Richard Rodgers on the field.

To avoid a potential injury, Aaron Rodgers should not be on the field for too long. Once he is done, the Green Bay Packers will focus on the battle to be the third string quarterback. Ryan Williams and Joe Callahan will battle it out to see who gets to stay on the roster.

On the other side of the ball, it will be interesting to see if the Green Bay Packers keep things simple with their defensive scheme. When Chip Kelly was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, Sam Bradford was able to dominate the Packers defense with their uptempo offense.

Three late-round draft picks are competing to be the two starting inside linebackers for the Green Bay Packers. Jake Ryan, Sam Barrington, and Blake Martinez are going to make their cases tonight. This is vital to the Packers because they want Clay Matthews back at outside linebacker.

Wins and losses really do not matter during NFL preseason games, even though Las Vegas enables fans to bet on the results. The more important thing for the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers is being able to figure out who will be starting for them during the regular season.

For the San Francisco 49ers, there are a couple of position battles going on. However, none is more important than the one being waged between Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert. The former is hoping that he can return to his spot and lead the team back to glory.
