‘Fast 8’ Feud Between Vin Diesel And Dwayne Johnson A Hoax?

There always seemed to be some rivalry between action stars Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel, even before the two were pitted against one another in Fast 8, but the conflict between the two Fast 8 stars now seems to be coming to a head, or is it?

As shooting on Fast 8 neared a close, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson called out an unnamed male co-star in an Instagram post, spurring rumors that there was some conflict on the set of the new Fast & Furious sequel, with many fans suspecting that Johnson’s comments were aimed at Diesel, the long-time star of the franchise. It’s now unclear how much of that friction is genuine, as a WWE event prepares to capitalize on the hype created by this apparent feud.

Fast 8 Stars Stars To Settle Their Differences In The Ring

The feud, whether real or a hoax to draw fans to the WWE match between Diesel and Johnson, was further instigated by an Instagram post made by Johnson in which he credits most of the Fast 8 cast, but, as GQ points out, also takes a stab at Dwayne’s male counterparts. While he admits that the Fast 8 crew were “incredibly hard working,” Johnson also brings attention to the on-set friction between male stars of a franchise previously believed to have been a very close-knit, familial group.

“My male co-stars however are a different story,” Diesel says in the caption. “Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken s**t to do anything about it anyway. Candy a**es. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling – you’re right.”

Those are some pretty bold claims, particularly when one realizes that Dwayne is a newer face to the Fast & Furious franchise, certainly in light of Vin Diesel, who has starred in every one of the franchise’s installments (except for a cameo in Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift). It’s now being uncovered, however, that Diesel and Johnson are mostly acting, playing the parts of feuding brothers to garner publicity for Fast 8 and for the planned WWE match.

Fast 8 Feud: Jason Statham Is Staying Out Of It

While Statham’s character in Furious 7 went up against both Diesel and Johnson, Cinema Blend reveals that the actor has been keeping his distance online and in person throughout the feud. Jason hints that the feud was genuine at one time, but also suggests that Dwayne and Vin have patched things up. It may be more likely that they have set their differences aside temporarily with the intention of rehashing everything in the wrestling ring, where they can capitalize on the battle and even prove, once and for all, who is the mightier warrior.

In any case, Statham says he steered clear of the two powerhouse action stars.

“I stay out of any bickering or any troubles that people have,” said the Fast 8 star. “I have nothing to do with it and I don’t want any part of it.”

For devoted fans of the Fast & Furious franchise, there remains the question of how Statham, whose character was sent to a maximum security prison at the end of Furious 7, can possibly appear in Fast 8. While the plot of Fast 8 is still largely a mystery, leaked set photos have revealed prison break sequences with Dwayne Johnson at the heart of the action, so it doesn’t seem improbable that Statham will rejoin the action following the prison break out.

Fast 8, starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Scott Eastwood, Charlize Theron, and Jason Statham, will open in theaters on April 14, 2017.
