Chargers lock up Rivers until 2015

The QB’s of the 2004 NFL draft are delivering Super Bowl Rings, playoff appearances, and regular season wins to the teams that draft and /or traded for them. Eli Manning was the number one overall pick that year and he recently signed one of the largest contracts in NFL history. Eli has delivered his New York Giants a Super Bowl, the man he was traded San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers just received a six year contract extension for 92 million dollars. Rivers has yet to deliver a Super Bowl title to San Diego.

Of course the the third QB taken in the 2004 draft was Pittsburgh’s Ben Rothlisberger and he made some 27 million dollars in 2008. Of course Ben has already won his team two Super Bowls. This makes the 2004 QB draft class one of the most successful since the magical 1983 NFL draft QB class.

Of course with his big contract finalized Rivers was quick to suggest that there isn’t anymore pressure to win a Super Bowl. Wither young Philip is naive as to how the business of sports works, or is trying to play off that fact that while he was the second 2004 QB drafted he will be the last to bring a Super Bowl title to his town, if he does at all.

In the end though this si a good move by the Chargers, Rivers is a great talent and if they can surrond him with the right kind of players a Super Bowl ring will come the Chargers way.
