The mess that is the 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers, and 2nd year Head Coach Mike Singletary, are desperate for someone to step up and win their starting QB job. Of course the 49ers would like former number one overall pick, Alex Smith, to be that man. Smith is entering his fifth NFL season, and is making more than 11 million dollars a year.

On the other hand the 49ers have Shaun Hill, an undrafted player with 8 years of experience. Hill has been a journeyman QB throughout his career but has spent the last few seasons in San Francisco. The main problem is neither one of these QB’s is stepping up to the plate. The 49ers have too many other holes to fill to allow sub par play from their QB position.

Of course the 49er receivers are not helping their QB’s out either. Since they draft Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech with the 10th overall pick in the 2009 draft, the 49ers were hoping to add a weapon one of their QB’s could use successfully. Since they have failed to sign him to a contract the team continues to suffer on the field.

It now seems likely that the solution to the 49ers QB position does not currently reside on their roster. The 49ers should be using this time to trade for a QB, even dangling the contract rights to Crabtree as apart of the package.
