Buccaneers’ QB battle gets interesting

New Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach, Raheem Morris, had planned to name his starting QB for the season in the days leading up to the third pre-season game this Thursday. QB Byron Leftwhich was believed to be in the lead, but the excellent play of QB Luke McCown Saturday night has reopened the competition. Now the Buccaneers have a very important very hard decision to make. However it is a very good problem to have.

McCown ahd a suburb game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. He completed six of nine passes for 51 yards, two touchdowns, and a QB rating of 107.5. That was certainly impressive, but Leftwhich didn’t do anything spectacular but was very efficient when on the field.

This is a problem every NFL team would love to have, two QB worthy of the starters job. The Bucs also have another ace in the hole as recently drafted QB Josh Freeman gets a year to learn the new Buccaneers system. It seems very likely that whomever does not start could be offered in a trade to address one of the team’s other positions.

The Buccaneers could use a little depth at Corner back since 2nd year CB Aquib Talib was arrested for Assault and Battery and may face a significant suspension from the league. It is likely that either Leftwhich or McCown could fetch the Buccaneers a quality Defensive back on the Trade Market.
