Gina Carano, the extremely talented mixed martial artist who wowed audiences with her considerable skills in director Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire, is the first female action star to sign on for the upcoming Expendables spin-off. According to the folks over at Geek Tyrant, Carano was among the first choices for the proposed motion picture. Producer Adi Shankar explained that making such a movie without her involvement was akin to insanity.

“I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of ‘The Expendables’ without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba,” he explained to Variety.

Sadly, Gina Carano is the only actress currently slated to join the all-female Expendables spin-off at Adi Shankar’s production company 1984 Private Defense Contractors. Although it’s currently unknown who, precisely, will join the Haywire star in the forthcoming cinematic endeavor, the options are presently wide open. Personally, I don’t think the movie could be considered an accomplishment without the services of Michelle Yeoh, Milla Jovovich, Uma Thurman, Jennifer Garner, and Cynthia Rothrock. Of course, this is just one movie geek’s opinion.

Although Gina Carano made an appearance in director Ben Ramsey’s criminally ignored direct-to-video action flick Blood and Bone starring Michael Jai White, she didn’t achieve mainstream success until Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire. While the film only made around $18 million at the domestic box office, it helped introduced the world to the considerable skills of its butt-kicking star.

Presently, Gina Carano is filming Justin Lin’s Fast and the Furious 6 with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for Universal Pictures. The flick is slated to open in theaters on May 24, 2013. Following this effort, Carano will appear in John Stockwell’s In The Blood, which finds the former MMA star portraying a woman looking for her missing husband. Chances are someone’s going to get some bones broken along the way.
