Goldberg Continues To Build Brock Lesnar Feud, Teases WWE Return

Brock Lesnar and former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Bill Goldberg have continued to call each other out over the last couple of weeks. Of course, all of it is being presented as hype for the upcoming WWE 2K17 video game, which both men are a huge part of. But the constant call outs and responses have led many to believe that there is something bigger going on, and that we’re eventually going to see a Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg rematch.

The initial hint at Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg 2 was in the very first WWE 2K17 commercial, which featured Goldberg. During the commercial, you could see a “Suplex City” road sign, which suggested that the former WCW Champion would be heading to Suplex City.

Following the commercial, Goldberg made it pretty clear that he was open to coming back, and that Brock Lesnar would be one of the men that he would like to face upon his return.

The latest tease for the match came this past Monday, when a video of Brock Lesnar saying “Bill, you’re next” was posted. Of course, it was in relation to WWE 2K17, but WWE fans took it as much more than just a video game advertisement.

On Thursday, Goldberg was doing a press tour in Germany, and he was, of course, asked about a WWE return, and a match with Brock Lesnar. Here’s what he said:

“For you guys, I’ll see what I can do. All I can tell you is the truth is at tomorrow morning at 6:55 I’m getting on a train and I’m going to Frankfurt. Then I’m going to New York City, and that’s all I can say about that. But you never say never, even when you’re my age. Because I have no issue putting the tights and the boots on and those gloves and ripping people’s faces off again. All I need is the opportunity to do it. So all I can say is all you fans out there keep doing what you’re doing and it’ll happen. The question is: Who do you want to see me strangle?”

Goldberg saying that he’s going to New York City has a lot of people believing that he’s going to make an appearance at this Sunday’s SummerSlam, which is going to be taking place in Brooklyn, New York. Of course, there has been a rumor going around that he will confront Brock Lesnar at the event, but as of this writing, there hasn’t been any additional info about his rumored appearance.

It’s unclear if Goldberg will come back as a weekly television character, or if he’ll have a schedule similar to Brock Lesnar’s, where he’ll only wrestle a couple of times a year. It’s probably safe to assume that it’ll be the latter, given the fact that he’s almost 50 years old.

The first Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar match is remembered for being a complete disaster, as both men were scheduled to leave the company the day after their first and so far only encounter. It was supposed to be one of the most epic matches in WWE history, but it turned out to be a complete dud due to the fact that neither man wanted to be there.

In the past, Goldberg has said that his biggest motivation for having another match is so his son, who hadn’t been born during his prime wresting years, can see him wrestle.

During the aforementioned press tour, Goldberg pretty much said that he’s planning on coming back. So, it’s no longer a matter of if he’ll come back, it’s a matter of when, and we could be seeing him in a WWE ring sooner rather than later.
