Jared Leto ‘Overwhelmed’ By Negative ‘Suicide Squad’ Reception, Allegedly Goes Off On Warner Bros [Report]

Did Jared Leto just say he’s done playing The Joker for Warner Bros.? Not exactly, but according to a recent encounter, Leto didn’t seem like he’s too keen on working with the studio again.

The 30 Seconds to Mars singer hosted an event called “Camp Mars” and at the event, Leto interacted with fans at the adult summer camp function. It was there that he allegedly let his full emotions out on what he thought about Suicide Squad, and Warner Bros. the studio that put the film and two other DC properties before it, on the big screen.

According to a report by Batman-News and Movie Pilot, it was during a fan Q&A when Leto went off on his thoughts about Suicide Squad. A fan said of the encounter,

“He was very honest about the film this weekend; his disappointment in what he’s learned of the theatrical cut (he’s still not seen the film); feeling sort of tricked into being a part of something that had been pitched to him very differently; thinking it would’ve been more artistic than what it became; feeling overwhelmed by the hate regarding the look and choices.”

When asked about participating in dangerous activities, such as rock climbing, which the actor loves to do, but is forbidden by the studio, Leto said, “F**k ’em!”

Learning Leto was disappointed about the finished product of Suicide Squad isn’t a huge surprise.

The Inquisitr reported earlier that Jared Leto thought he would be included in more of the film, and found out that a lot of his scenes were cut from the theatrical version of Suicide Squad, despite The Joker being heavily promoted in the film prior to its release.

During a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, Leto revealed that he had shot so much footage that it could be released as a separate film using just the footage he shot as The Joker.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Leto said, “I think that I brought so much to the table in every scene, it was probably more about filtering all of the insanity, because I wanted to give a lot of options, and I think there’s probably enough footage in this film for a Joker movies. If I were to die tomorrow, maybe the studio would roll something out. Rated R or rated X performance in there somewhere.”‘

Leto isn’t the only person surprised by the scaling down of The Joker’s role in Suicide Squad. As the Inquisitr reported, a Reddit user took to the popular forum to complain. The user went on to accuse Warner Bros. of false advertisement.

Suicide Squad trailers showcased several SPECIFIC Joker scenes that I had to pay for the whole movie just so that I can go watch those SPECIFIC SCENES that WB/DC had advertised in their trailers and TV spots.

“You should get what they advertised as their first theatre showing and what you have paid for based on what they have showed you in their advertisements.”

While Warner Bros. has never publicly commented on the deleted scenes, it’s publicly known that after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to perform at the box office, Warner Bros. ordered immediate reshoots to Suicide Squad. Critics complained that the dark tone didn’t work for Batman v Superman among other things, and Warner Bros took note. This may be the reason why The Joker scenes were cut.

As of right now it’s not known if Jared Leto signed a multi-contract deal that would bind him to appear as The Joker in other films. Prior to the film coming out, Leto seemed pleased to return to the role, but no one knows if he feels that way after his recent comments.
