‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Season 2 Return: Brand New Images Show Nick Traveling Alone In The First Episode

AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 returns this Sunday, August 21. New images revealed show Nick Clark may be spending a big chunk of Episode 8 wandering around by himself — except when there are massive groups of walkers.

Spoiler alert: This article discusses Season 2 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

The Season 2 return of Fear the Walking Dead appears to center on the main character Nick Clark (Frank Dillane), if recent images released by AMC are an indication. Episode 8 is titled “Grotesque,” and the official synopsis is below.

“Nick’s steadfast search for answers leads him into a deadly dog-eat-dog landscape. A dark piece of his past is uncovered.”

Judging by the newly released images of Fear the Walking Dead, Episode 8 will center around Nick just like the synopsis suggests. While no images of the other core characters appear, this doesn’t mean they won’t make an appearance in Episode 8, just that the episode seems likely to focus on Nick’s story.

The mid-season finale of Fear the Walking Dead saw Nick break away from the core group and branch out alone after the death of Celia Flores (Marlene Forte). Celia was a character who believed the infected where a new kind of human and kept them locked up in her cellar, much like Hershel did in Season 2 of AMC’s The Walking Dead. We know from a recent interview that Nick is looking for like-minded people.

“[Nick] is trying to get to a safe place, or where there might be more people who empathize with the dead, or at least don’t just go around killing them,” Frank Dillane explains during a Season 2 interview first released by Yahoo!

However, newly released still from AMC show that Nick may not find anyone at all in Episode 8 of the Season 2 return of Fear the Walking Dead — unless you count the infected. Many of the stills show Nick walking through the desolate landscape by himself. At times he is looking skyward, like he will find answers there — or perhaps he is just tracking the time of day via the sun or waiting for rain. Other stills show Nick on top of an old car. While it doesn’t actually show Nick surrounded by the undead, it is a possibility that Nick could become trapped on top of the car if a large group of walkers wander by, especially since one of the stills shows Nick looking concerned as he peers down from the car top. There are certainly images of a horde of the infected, so perhaps that is what AMC are hinting at. Nick is still covered in the blood of the infected, so that could safeguard him.

One of the newly released Episode 8 stills also shows newcomer Alejandro, played by Paul Calderon. Alejandro will be a part of Luciana’s group, who Nick will eventually bump into in the Season 2 return of Fear The Walking Dead.
